Ryland Homes builds Giddy-Up General For Home Aid Atlanta's Project Playhouse

social-print

This summer, national home builder Ryland Homes started thinking on a little bit of a "smaller" scale as members from its Atlanta regional office put their experience building dream homes into building The Giddy-Up General Store for HomeAid Atlanta's Project Playhouse. Inspired by the Old West, the 8 X 10 playhouse will be one of seven displayed at the Mall of Georgia this fall and auctioned in a Mini-Mansion Fundraiser on Saturday, October 20.

"Inspired by the general stores of the Old West, the Giddy-Up General Store is a place for children to use their imaginations and transport themselves back in time," said Susan Beier, Ryland Homes Sales and Marketing Manager. "From the "Most Wanted" posters hanging on the walls to the shelves lined with old fashion candies, we took every measure to ensure the authenticity of the playhouse - leaving the kids to feel as if they are really in the Wild West while spending time in the playhouse."
Guests enter The Giddy-Up General Store through its double front doors, which resemble doors from Wild West salons. Western themes adorn the outside of the barn-like structure, including lantern lighting fixtures and a double horse stall, where little cow boy and girls can saddle up. Inside, working windows allow a cool breeze, and a loft provides a comfortable place to camp out at night or play games during the day. A child-sized produce stand complete with cash register and scales is the perfect place for children to let their imaginations run wild as they welcome friends inside to "purchase" some of the many items for sale on the shelves throughout the playhouse. A flat screen TV with surround sound adds a touch of the present to this playhouse inspired by the past.
"We have enjoyed designing The Giddy-Up General and watching it take form," said Michael Padezanin, Ryland Homes Customer Service Manager. "At the same time, Project Playhouse has offered us a terrific outlet to become involved in the community while at the same time contributing to a worthy cause."
Ryland Homes building partners on The Giddy-Up General are BSB Design, DMD Design Group, North Georgia Unlimited, Decker Painting, Foam Sculpture, Laneheart Electric, North Georgia Brick, Phoenix Systems, Porter Paint, Robert Bowden, Inc., Stock Building Supply, and Weyerhaeuser-Trus Joist McMillian.

The Giddy-Up General and six additional playhouses built by premium Atlanta builders will be on display at Village Pavilion at Mall of Georgia. The Playhouse Village will be open to the public Saturdays 11:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. (11 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 20) and Sundays, 12:00 noon - 6:00 p.m., September 8 through October 20. Raffle tickets will be available at Project Playhouse during weekend hours and on weekdays at Mall of Georgia's Simon Guest Services. Raffle ticket prices will be as follows: 1 ticket for $3.00; 2 tickets for $5.00; 4 tickets for $10.00; 10 tickets for $20.00 and 30 tickets for $50.00.

The Auction Party will be held Saturday, October 20 at 5:30 p.m. at the Atlanta Athletic Club; the winning raffle ticket will be randomly drawn for the raffle playhouse, and the six playhouses will be sold at auction. Party admission is $50 per person.
