Ahavath Achim Synagogue Celebrates Its 120th Anniversary

Benefit performance of Golda's Balcony at the Rialto Center for the Arts caps celebration!

social-print

"I am at the end of my stories" are the first words uttered in Golda's Balcony. This dramatic one-woman performance follows the trajectory of the life one of the greatest women of our time. Golda Meir moved from Russian immigrant to American schoolteacher, and ultimately to the fourth Prime Minister of the State of Israel.

Playwright William Gibson's Balcony constantly returns to the 1973 Yom Kippur War, when Israel was attacked by Egypt and Syria. According to Gibson, Meir threatens Henry Kissinger that she will launch nuclear warheads against the countries harming Israel. She pleads for US aid, fearing that "Doomsday will begin in Jerusalem."

A benefit performance of Golda's Balcony, the longest running one-woman show in Broadway's history, is the centerpiece of Ahavath Achim Synagogue's yearlong celebration of its 120th Anniversary.

Golda's Balcony, starring Kim Crow, will be staged for one night only at the Rialto Center for the Arts on April 10, 2008. Ticket sales begin the end of January.
