social-print

HELEN, Ga. - The Chattahoochee River is leading waterways across the nation with the launch of the first Bandalong litter trap in Helen, GA. The litter trap will gather unwelcome trash and litter flowing down the river.

Cleveland, Ga.-based Stormwater Systems and White County Middle School's Student Environmental Action Team (S.E.A.T) have joined together to introduce the nation's first Bandalong Litter Trap onto the Chattahoochee River.

Friday, April 25
1-3 pm
Edelweiss Strasse at the Chattahoochee

During the inaugural launch the S.E.A.T. club will also announce their waste characterization study to be conducted using the Bandalong litter trap. Last year the Upper Chattahoochee Riverkeepers picked up over a ton of litter on the Chattahoochee River above Lake Lanier.

Public and private sectors of the community including the Georgia State Department of Natural Resources, the Upper Chattahoochee Riverkeepers and White County have joined efforts to place the Bandalong litter trap on the river.

Speakers include:
Gary Hopkins, president of Stormwater Systems, Inc.
Students, White Co. Middle School Student Environmental Action Team
Tom O'Bryant, White County Planning Director
John Erbele, Ga. Department of Natural Resources, Smithgall Woods & Hardiman Estate
Bonny Putney, "The Trash Queen," an Upper Chattahoochee Riverkeeper and member of the Lake Lanier Association

The White County Middle School S.E.A.T. Club is comprised of students who dedicate time to environmentally beneficial projects while educating the community about the consequences of littering.
