Congressman John Lewis to attend the Third Annual 4th Down Fundamentals Football and Cheerleading Camp set for June 28th

City of Atlanta welcomes camp to Anderson Park

On June 28, 2008, Leigh Torrence, Washington Redskin Cornerback will host nearly 500 campers (including 100 cheerleading campers) at Atlanta’s Anderson Park for the Third Annual 4th Down Fundamentals Football and Cheerleading Camp. Congressman John Lewis will be at the camp to welcome participants and guests to the camp. During the 2007 off-season, Leigh Torrence was a congressional intern for Congressman Lewis who represents the 5th District, his home district.

“This annual event gives the youth of my home community of South West Atlanta an opportunity to participate in a one day football and cheerleading camp,” said Torrence. “My foundation, Southwest Atlanta Youth Foundation (SWAY), is teaming with the NFL Youth Partners and the Police Athletic League (P.A.L.) in order to take the camp to a new level this year. The 4th Down Fundamentals Camp has been a huge success for the past two years in large part because of the generous support of the community, the city of Atlanta, my colleagues in the National Football League and various partners.”

Leigh Torrence’s SWAY Foundation has established itself as an organization dedicated to providing quality youth enrichment programs during the critical summer months. The 4th Down Fundamentals Camp has given more than 800 youth the opportunity to participate in a program committed to character development, achieving athletic excellence, sportsmanship, and building healthy relationships.

Check in is Saturday, June 28th @ Anderson Park (located at 142 Anderson Ave. NW) between 9:00 a.m. and 9:45 a.m. The Camp will begin immediately after check in and will end at 3:00 p.m. This Camp is open and Completely Free for boys and girls between the ages of 8-18, who have not begun classes associated with their senior year of High School.

All campers are required to have a completed and signed parental release form (attached) before participating in any camp activities. Pre-Registration is strongly recommended, as space is limited.

By partnering with the Police Athletic League and with funding from the SWAY Foundation, Make A Difference Foundation, the NFL, and Mercedes Benz of Buckhead, the campers will enjoy the day concentrating on developing key football and cheerleading fundamentals while being introduced to life skill concepts. They will receive hands on guidance from NFL players, a professional cheerleading group, a number of knowledgeable coaches, and more than 100 volunteers! Leigh Torrence takes mentorship and giving back to his community to a new level.

“It is my privilege and honor to have Leigh once again offering this camp to the youth of our community,” said Atlanta City Councilman Ivory Lee Young, Jr, who recognized Torrence in 2007 for this community service work. “Leigh Torrence Jr. is an example of a community leader and role model who believes strongly in giving back to his hometown in many ways.”
