Journalist Shares Personal Documentary to Raise Awareness of Premature Birth; Anniversary of Family Loss Keeps Twins Memory Alive

social-print
Three years ago on April 19th, reporter Amani Channel and his wife were dealt and unexpected blow when their twin boys were born prematurely at twenty weeks. "I was working at Fox 13 in Tampa at the time, and though I've covered every tragedy and story imaginable, nothing could have prepared us for the personal loss."

Months after the birth, he and his wife relocated to Atlanta. They've made it their personal mission to increase awareness of premature birth by sharing their story and raising money for the March of Dimes on behalf of his firstborn twin boys Rico and Jordan. Channel is using his blog www.myurbanreport.com to share the documentary he produced about the experience and events. "It was three years ago, but it really seems like yesterday," he says. "So far we've raised a little more than five hundred dollars, but believe we can raise five thousand or more with the support of the community."

This story doesn't end there. On November 3, 2008 the Channel's were blessed with a healthy boy. "Although we're very thankful to have Devin in our lives, we're committed to keeping the memory of his brothers alive, and we want to share our story with as many people as possible."
