social-print
"Thanks to our wonderful sponsors, speakers, award-winners, exhibitors and attendees, the 12th Annual Possible Woman Conference was a rousing success," said Linda Wind, president of Wind Enterprises, presenter of Possible Woman conferences. "We truly lived up to our theme of Power, Promise and Possibilities: Women Creating the Magic of Change."

The 2009 platinum sponsor for Wind Enterprises and Possible Woman is American Airlines. Gold sponsor is Southern Company. Premier sponsor is AT&T. Silver sponsors are: Atlanta Magazine, P&G Pharmaceuticals, WE USA and BlackBox Technologies. Bronze sponsors include: Avon, BLUE MedSpa, ExactTarget, IBM, Kroger, Ribbon and UPS. Supporting sponsors include: IKEA, WIT, Koehn Financial Group, Stewart & Company and ProWIN.

A portion of conference profits benefits the Possible Woman Foundation International, a 501(c) (3) organization, which awards non-traditional academic scholarships to older women in need returning to school. Seven deserving women from around the U.S. were brought to Atlanta to receive $5,000 scholarships including Annette Lee of Clarksville, GA. The high-school dropout overcame several bad marriages and domestic abuse to found a trucking business and the Stockbridge, GA-based Feed My People food bank and thrift store.

"Now I am struggling to meet the challenge and earn the respect of a college degree," says Lee who is supporting her heart-transplant husband and handicapped daughter while studying social work at Piedmont College in Demorest, GA. Another recipient is working on a master's in community development; one wants to be a psychologist. One is studying to be a teacher, another a nurse. All have dramatic stories of overcoming adversity and were warmly welcomed by the hundreds of women at the conference April 21 at the Georgia World Congress Center.

Dr. Greg Allgood, Director of Proctor & Gamble Children's Safe Drinking Water (CSDW) Program, received the conference's Making a Difference Award, for his efforts to provide safe drinking water in the developing world and his contribution in making a unique and significant difference in the lives of both men and women globally. The award includes a donation from Wind Enterprises to CSDW to provide water purification packets to families in developing countries. Through CSDW, a $1 donation provides clean water for a child for 50 days, $7.50 provides clean water for a child for a year and $30 provides a family with clean water for a year.

The talented speakers and presenters at 12th Annual Possible Woman Conference were leaders, entrepreneurs and authors who are enthusiastic about inspiring women. Corporate conjuror Joe M. Turner opened the conference with his special brand of change-magic. Georgia Attorney General Thurbert Baker joined Linda Wind to welcome attendees.

Luncheon keynote former White House press secretary Dee Dee Myers spoke on Why Women Should Rule the World. Closing keynote was Nicki Keohohou, CEO of Direct Selling Woman's Alliance and one of America's Top 30 Female Entrepreneurs.

Offering fascinating insights, the Women of Power and Vision plenary session was moderated by Pat Falotico of ibm.com Americas and featured Ann Cramer of IBM North America, Marsha Sampson Johnson of Southern Company and Deborah Storey of AT&T.
