How Is the Economy Affecting Your Local TV News? Find Out As the News Directors Make a Rare Appearance Together

 

The Atlanta Press Club will host four local television news directors at a Newsmaker Luncheon on Tuesday, June 9 at The Commerce Club. Ellen Crooke, WXIA 11 Alive; Budd McEntee, WAGA Fox 5; Marian Pittman, WSB Channel 2 Action News; and Steve Schwaid from CBS Atlanta News, will be the guest panel for a behind- the- scenes look at how the downturn economy is affecting the newsroom.

WHO
The local news directors have a charge of working with tighter budgets, competing for ratings and managing staff with constant changing technology. Each news director brings a different management style and personality to the newsroom.

Ellen Crooke has been with WXIA since September 2008. Before coming to Atlanta, Crooke was Vice President of News with WGRZ Buffalo in New York for six years. She has received many awards in journalism, including the National Edward R. Murrow award for overall excellence and best newscast.

Budd McEntee, the vice President of FOX 5, has been news director since 1982. McEntee previously worked with news stations in Boston, Fort Myers and Nashville. He also served as the President of the Atlanta Press Club in 1997. He was inducted into the Silver Circle in 2005 for his 25 years in broadcast news.

Marian Pittman has worked for Cox Television for 20 years in Charlotte, NC, Orlando, FL and Dayton, OH before returning to Atlanta WSB-TV in July 2006. Marian was awarded one of the Top 10 TV Managers of the Year by Television Week Magazine in 2008.

Steve Schwaid is the News Director for WGCL TV 46 and has been with the station for since July 2008. Before coming to CBS Atlanta Steve worked for NBC Universal as the Senior Vice President for Strategic Growth and Content Initiative and Senior Vice President of News and Programming.
