Aurea McGarry offers inspiration to domestic-abuse victims, cancer survivors, entrepreneurs and nonprofits
Through TV show, books and speeches, McGarry demonstrates value of determination
Produced and hosted by Aurea McGarry, a "Live Your Legacy" program on Noah's Ark Animal & Children Rehabilitation Center will tell the dramatic story of the animals and children helped by the Atlanta nonprofit organization. The half-hour show will air three times in June on Public Broadcasting Atlanta (PBA 30): - Sunday, June 7 at 9:30 a.m.

- Sunday, June 28 at 6 a.m.
Other "Live Your Legacy" episodes have featured the Ron Clark Academy, Toys for Tots, Habitat for Humanity, Rape Response and the Humane Society. Originally airing on the Atlanta ION station, the show is now on the Starfish channel on Dish. The show focuses on dramatic stories of redemption through the good works of dynamic individuals and non-profit organizations. It has been recognized as a top 30 series out of the 2000 that air on Starfish Network.
Her "Live Your Legacy with Aurea McGarry" television show is only one way the domestic-abuse and cancer survivor reaches out to inspire and teach about overcoming adversity.
Her first book, I Won't Survive, I'll Thrive! emphasizes the importance of a positive attitude in facing and overcoming poverty, abuse and illness. She now brings her message of hope, determination, laughter and success to corporate and charitable groups throughout the country. Her most-requested topic: Why Women Stay in Abusive Relationships.
This "miracle motivator" and "sur-thriver" also offers her signature high-energy presentations on entrepreneurism and direct sales. She has been a successful senior sales director with Mary Kay Cosmetics, earning seven company cars, two Pink Cadillacs and winning diamond awards for outstanding national sales and recruiting. McGarry was told by doctors she would never be able to speak above a faint whisper after surgery for Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma removed a nerve to her vocal cord, part of each lung and her Thymus. The determined McGarry defied those predictions and has been cancer-free for nine years. She also overcame the seven years of violence and abuse of her first marriage.
With a theatre and television background, McGarry now speaks with authority and empathy, whether addressing the topics of domestic abuse and cancer with sensitivity or telling a story of a nonprofit organization bringing about a dramatic transformation.
