Special Events: Planning to Execution August 18

social-print
Nonprofit University will host a class on Special Events on August 18. The class will be taught by Deborah Spector, of Creative Solutions and Innovations. It will be held in the Nonprofit University Training Room in the Hurt Building in downtown Atlanta. The class is designed to give an overview of choosing, planning, and executing a special event for an organization. Some features include a section on Special Events during a Recession, Using Social Media and e-fundraising.

Nonprofits need to be able to use creativity in today's economy and one way to do so is by hosting special events that will attract a wide audience who are not only interested in the mission of the organization, but also driven to give their time and money to further its' efforts. Spector realizes this and focuses on how nonprofits can turn creativity into productivity that will be beneficial to clients, board members, volunteers, and staff. Producing a special event can be a costly venture for an organization, but if one has the right tools and partnerships, it can be a great source of revenue. Promotion is important in getting a successful attendance so knowing how to use social media to talk up an event is not only helpful, but almost a requirement. If one does not post an event on facebook these days, it may not be well-attended. For those unfamiliar with social networking, Nonprofit University also offers classes on how to use facebook, twitter, as well as other networking sites.

The Special Events class will also focus on community outreach, how the event ties in with an organization's mission, incorporating events into one's development plan, how to host and plan for different types of events, how to set goals, how to delegate responsibilities, and how to promote and market an event. The cost of the class is $125 and there are a few partial scholarships. Attendants will also leave with the handouts, tools, and resources they will need to successfully market, promote, and produce an amazing event.

The wonderful instructor, Deborah Spector, has taught with Nonprofit University before and is the President of Creative Solutions and Innovations. She brings more than 25 years of marketing communications, development and community relations to her clients. Deborah specializes in the design and implementation of special events.

A consultant for the Georgia Center for Nonprofits, Deborah is recognized as an Event Planning/Public Events resource in the Atlanta Daybook Expert Network. She received a Certificate from George Washington University in Best Practices in Event Management.
