New York -
Television and film actress Tina Sloan will perform in her one-woman show,
Changing Shoes, at the 14th Street Playhouse in Atlanta, GA from September 25 through October 8, 2009.
Sloan, best known for her 26-year role as nurse Lillian Raines on the CBS daytime drama,
Guiding Light, has created an alternately hilarious and deeply moving story of a television star facing the personal and professional realities of getting older.
Spanning more than 40 years of her life,
Changing Shoes begins when Tina has a chance encounter with an old pair of shoes while dressing for the Daytime Emmy Awards. Those shoes launch Tina and the audience on a journey that features the excitement of being a sexy starlet and leading lady, the humiliation of being diminished at work and the heartbreak of caring for aging parents.
Changing Shoes is a play about change,” says Sloan. “It's a play about finding the courage to transform yourself, to learn how to twinkle again after your lights have been dimmed.”
Tina Sloan, 66, originated the role of Lillian Raines in 1983 on
Guiding Light. The popular soap ended its 72 –year broadcast run on September 18th and now Tina is beginning her new life as an author, playwright, and theatrical actress.
Sloan brings
Changing Shoes to Atlanta after its premier at the Boca Grande (Florida) Theater and a sold-out performance at the Cape May (New Jersey) Stage earlier this year. Tina’s message of staying engaged at every stage of one's life continues to resonate with audiences and her fans across the United States and around the world.
Tina has appeared in the Woody Allen films
Celebrity and
The Curse of the Jade Scorpion. She can also been seen in the films
The Brave One with Jodi Foster,
Changing Lanes with Ben Affleck,
The Guru with Marisa Tomei, and
People I Know with Al Pacino.
