WHAT: The Atlanta district council of the Urban Land Institute (
ULI Atlanta) has organized a Technical Advisory Panel to assist with the Old National Improvements Initiative, which aims to transform College Park's Old National Highway into a vibrant commercial and retail corridor. The initiative is made possible through the joint efforts of the City of College Park, Fulton County, and the State of Georgia in partnership with the Old National Merchants Association, the business community, area schools and the neighborhood organizations that are affected by the quality of life along the Old National Corridor.
ULI Atlanta will provide guidance and direction in developing a design/build process for the bus shelter south of the intersection of Old National Highway and Godby Road. The MARTA bus stop on Old National Highway (to the south of the Godby Road intersection) is symbolic of the blight, and the opportunities, that exist along the Old National Corridor. The purpose is to establish a community-based process that can serve as a guide for additional bus stop / shelter improvements along Old National Highway, as well as other communities.
To assist with this planning effort, ULI will convene a panel of experts in local government, public transit, private property acquisition, bus shelter construction, lighting, trash receptacle installation, community partnerships, community branding and public/private partnerships.
WHO: Panel members include Chirayu Bhatt, HOK; John Cheek, Urban Designer, Planner, Architect; Steve Cover, HOK; Rukiya Eaddy, Atlanta Beltline, Inc; Lawrence Gellerstedt, Jackson Spalding; Will Herbig, Midtown Alliance; Michael Hightower, The Collaborative Firm, LLC; Danielle Roney, Danielle Roney, LLC; Kenneth Wood, Planners and Engineers Collaborative Inc. and Shepherd Long, Long Engineering. Key stakeholders from the following groups have also been invited: The Old National Merchants Association, Fulton County Arts Council, MARTA, Area Property Owners and Business Owners, City of College Park Officials (Public Works, Planning, Economic Development), Fulton County Officials and Local School Officials.
WHEN: Thursday, October 22, 2009, 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
WHERE: Clarion Hotel at 5010 Old National Highway, Atlanta, GA, 30349
