Event grows each year
During Dawson County’s inaugural event, held on Veterans Day in 2005, there were patriotic vehicles and floats with a procession of Veterans representing the following wars/conflicts: WWII, Korean, Vietnam, Gulf War, Iraq and Afghanistan. Veterans’ organization represented that year included the Atlanta Chapter of Vietnam Veterans, Motorcycles of Vietnam Veterans and the Dawson County Chapter of Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 970.
Each year, Dawson County’s Veterans Day Celebration grows. This year, The National Veterans Day Committee in Washington, DC, designated Veterans Day in Dawsonville, Ga., as a Regional Site for its 2009 Celebration. The honor is based on select Veterans Day observances throughout the country that represent fitting tributes to America’s heroes. Dawson County is one of just two sites in Georgia so designated and will be recognized by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in writing and in person.
