ATLANTA, GA - Milton H. Jones, Jr., Chairman and President, 100 Black Men of Atlanta, Inc., and John T. Grant, Jr., CEO, along with Members of the Board of Directors are pleased to announce a contribution of $84,000 from The Wachovia Wells Fargo Foundation to 100 Black Men of Atlanta, Inc. in support of the 2009 Capital Campaign. “On behalf of our students, we sincerely thank The Wachovia Wells Fargo Foundation., stated Chairman Jones. “This contribution is directed to our building fund development efforts, which includes expansion and technology upgrades to our 100 Resource Learning Center, Computer Lab, Library and Robotics Lab,” The facility houses the organization’s Project Success Program, a college preparatory and tuition assistance program that has been successfully educating youth for 22 years.
“The work of 100 Black Men of Atlanta with our young people is of vital importance and we are pleased to provide our support,” said Jerome Byers, Atlanta regional president for Wachovia, A Wells Fargo Company.
In addition to providing afterschool and Saturday School classes that supplement the Atlanta Public School (APS) curriculum during the school year, in July of 2009, the 100 launched a summer pilot program: Project Success Post-Secondary Workshop Series. “The goal was to provide post-secondary preparation to all Project Success high school students,” stated John Grant, Chief Executive Officer, 100 Black Men of Atlanta. “We identified several areas of need and provided interactive lessons, case scenarios, open discussions, role playing, internet research, writing exercises and team-building activities that were taught by 100 members, staff, sponsors, the 100 RLC coordinator, and educational consultants.” This year’s series included instruction in the following: academic skills review and enhancement, college and career exploration, life skills, ACT/SAT test taking strategies, financial management, leadership development and a safe teen driving workshop.
A contribution to the 100 Black Men of Atlanta’s Capital Campaign is more than support of a building. Donors are providing a home for the students of Project Success where enhanced learning takes place. The mission of The Wachovia Wells Fargo Foundation is to build strong and vibrant communities, improve the quality of life, and make a positive difference. This directly aligns with the mission and purpose of 100 Black Men of Atlanta as they deliver services to the youth of Atlanta, their families and the community.
