Atlanta, GA - In recognition of November as National Diabetes Awareness Month, DeKalb County Commissioner Lee May will recognize Atlanta Falcons Defensive End standout Chauncey Davis and
The Chauncey Davis Foundation on November 10, at the Manuel Maloof Auditorium located at 1300 Commerce Drive in Decatur. The program begins at 9 a.m.
“I am truly honored for this recognition as the foundation continues to work to increase the awareness of diabetes in communities throughout Georgia,” said Davis. “Diabetes personally impacted my life when my mother lost a leg due to complications associated with the disease. Now, I consider it my mission to increase awareness of diabetes and to promote healthy lifestyles for youth and young adults.”
The Chauncey Davis Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, was established in 2007 with a focus on educating youth about health and wellness issues. Each year, the foundation provides a number of educational workshops, seminars and activities to promote healthy living, physical health and mental health with a specific concentration in diabetes awareness, detection and prevention.
“I have witnessed first hand Chauncey’s commitment to the community,” said May, who represents District 5 in DeKalb County. “His hands-on work in Georgia serves as an example of the positive change one individual can make when they dedicate their time, energy and resources to any idea. We in DeKalb County are proud of his work and accomplishments in impacting lives and promoting health & wellness with our young people.”
According to the American Diabetes Association, more than 24 million Americans have diabetes.
