An elegant evening of awards to revered corporate, government and community supporters along with a scrumptious dinner and spectacular performance by Grammy nominated R & B singer Keith Washington will highlight the Atlanta Urban League’s 48
TH Annual Equal Opportunity Day Dinner (EOD). Saturday, November 14 at the Atlanta Marriot Marquis at 7 p.m. Turner Broadcasting System Inc. will receive top honors with the coveted
Equal Opportunity Day Award of The Year. Another high honor the Community Service Award of The Year will be presented to U.S. Congressman David Scott. The awards dinner will be hosted by Richelle Carey Anchor of HLN.
“We are proud to bestow our highest honor upon Turner Broadcasting for the outstanding work they have done for many years in the areas of work force diversity,” said Nancy Flake Johnson, Atlanta Urban League President and CEO. “We are equally excited about presenting our community service award to Congressman David Scott for his efforts over the years and particularly his recent work in the area of affordable housing, health care and employment. We are proud of all of our honorees.”
In addition to Turner Broadcasting System and Congressman David Scott, other honorees at the awards dinner include: Heineken Rising Star Award, Attorney Travis Townsend; Atlanta Urban League Young Professionals (AULYP); President’s Award, Hillary Johnson, AUL board member and Public Affairs Manager SE, Heineken USA; Program Service Awards – Entrepreneurship, Georgia-Pacific Foundation; Education and Workforce Development, Atlanta Public Schools Adult Education and Housing, BB&T Bank.
With the commitment to empower communities and change lives, the Atlanta Urban League selected “Pathways to Community Empowerment: Education, Employment, Job Training, Entrepreneurship and Home Ownership as its theme for this year’s awards dinner.

About Keith Washington
Keith Washington brings a wealth of experience to his music as a chart-topping recording artist and dynamic performer. A native of Detroit he began his professional career in earnest when he began touring with Detroit-based R&B favorites, The Dramatics. Keith then went on to work with various producers such as BabyFace & L.A Reid, Stevie Wonder, George Duke, Gerald Levert and various others.
Among the up-and-coming ballad stylists in the 90’s urban contemporary generation, Keith Washington rode to fame with his 1991 LP “Make Time For Love” which was co-produced by Quincy Jones. The first single of this LP, “Kissing You” was an R&B smash and was nominated for a Grammy for Best R&B Male Vocal Performance. In 1992 Keith also received the Soul Train Music Award for Best Male R&B/Soul Single. “Kissing You” later was heard as background music on the NBC Soap Opera, General Hospital and resulted in Keith’s acting debut as a regular character on the NBC Soap Opera. Today the cashmere vocal styling of Keith Washington has returned to top the music charts again with his much anticipated 4th LP and release of his new single “Makes Me Feel”...
