Scalable, map-based surveillance system allows officers to see any camera at any location in two clicks of a mouse.

College Park, Ga/Nov. 16, 2009 – The City of College Park has joined a growing list of cities to install video cameras near high-traffic areas throughout the city. Iron Sky, a Houston, Texas based surveillance company (http://www.ironsky.com) will provide College Park with high definition cameras in its ongoing effort to reduce and prevent crime.
“The use of cameras will help us take any step necessary to improve the overall safety of this city,” said Interim Police Chief Tom Kuzniacki. “They will help us monitor some situations before they become problematic, and in emergency situations, staff can view in real time on the laptop inside their vehicles.”
This is the first venture into street level surveillance cameras for the City of College Park. The fixed cameras are planned for Main Street, Old National Highway, and Camp Creek Parkway. Cameras record high resolution images at 20-30 frames per second, 24 hours a day.
“We are proud to be the solution selected by the City of College Park, and are fully committed to working with Chief Kuzniacki to support his innovative approach to protecting citizens,” said Keith Drummond, President & CEO, Iron Sky.
With its pledge to supply “Better Tools to Fight Crime”, Iron Sky delivers a turnkey surveillance solution designed for municipalities that is scalable for unlimited camera locations. “Iron Sky can be as big or small as our clients’ need us to be,” said Iron Sky General Manager Bob Carter. “College Park is unique in that they own their utility poles and have their own power company that can perform the hardware installation under the guidance of an Iron Sky Project Manager.”
Iron Sky is creating camera kits with pre-configured hardware and, after mounting, needs only to be connected to a power source. To use College Park Power as the installer relieves the city from hiring an outside firm.
“We’re excited about the prospect of incorporating this system into our overall safety structure,” said Interim Chief Kuzniacki. “It’s a wireless system, which gives us a great deal of flexibility. We may have involvement by our citizens, including some monitoring of the system, too.”
Law enforcement and emergency responders will have the ability to observe any camera on the system, giving real-time monitoring capabilities in the field. Other uses may include the ability to recognize and record other activity, such as someone painting graffiti on a wall or dumping trash and garbage in unauthorized areas.
Iron Sky’s software development provides customized expansion, and College Park seeks to incorporate camera surveillance around the Georgia International Convention Center, the Virginia Avenue corridor and other areas in the future.
“We’ll assess the system over a period of time and expand where necessary,” said Kuzniacki.
With a population of approximately 20,000 residents, the City of College Park covers 10 square miles. The city is also home to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, the world’s busiest.
