Falcons Chauncey Davis’ ‘Bike For Life’ Holiday Event Provided 92 Bikes to Atlanta’s Youth This Christmas

[ATLANTA, GA] Atlanta Falcons Defensive End Chauncey Davis (#92) donated 92 bikes to Atlanta area youth as part of his foundation’s health and wellness community outreach efforts on December 22, in Decatur. The “Bike For Life” initiative promotes exercise and healthy lifestyles 365 days a year by encouraging year-round physical fitness and combat childhood obesity and diabetes.

Rapper Shawty Lo, Atlanta Falcons Kroy Bierman, Atlanta Falcons Quinn Ojinnaka, Atlanta Falcons Cheerleaders and Falcons mascot ‘Freddie Falcon’ joined youth, parents and sponsors for the inaugural event. All bike recipients participated in an interactive biking safety tutorial led by the Atlanta Bicycle Coalition and received free safety helmets.

“We know the best ways to combat diabetes and childhood obesity is through diet and exercise,” said Davis, whose mother lost her leg due to complications associated with diabetes. “There is no better gift I can think of than the gift of life through promoting healthy lifestyles and exercise year round. I want to thank all the sponsors for making this event possible.”

Bike donations where provided by generous contributions from: Atlanta Falcons, BB&T, Stone Mountain Chrysler Jeep Dodge, Universal Sports Management, Zaxby’s, Bank of America, EntertainCorp, Profile Marketing & Public Relations, Home Base Marketing LLC and Enviro. Individual donors included: Rapper Shawty Lo, New Birth Missionary Baptist Church’s Bishop Eddie L. Long, So So Def’s Jerry Clark, DeKalb Solicitor Robert James, Atlanta Falcons Jamaal Anderson and Atlanta Falcons Chauncey Tony Gonzalez.

“Giving free bikes and safety equipment to these young people was more than just a Christmas gift,” said DeKalb County Commissioner Lee May, who serves as a board member of The Chauncey Davis Foundation. “These bikes represent a new and healthier life for 92 young people from across the metro area. I am truly honored to be apart of this life-changing and life-saving endeavor.”

Bike recipients included: 100 Black Men of DeKalb’s leadership academy and Atlanta area parks and recreation center students. In addition to the free bikes and safety equipment, participating youth received healthy stacks, Falcons t-shirts, bicycle safety manuals and more.

Davis established The Chauncey Davis Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, in 2007 shortly after his mother’s amputation. Since its inception, the foundation has worked in the community promoting health/wellness, nutrition and diabetes awareness.
