AM 1690 “The Voice of the Arts”
Is Proud to Welcome
Studio 360 with Kurt Andersen
Tune in Mondays at 4pm! AM 1690 “The Voice of the Arts” is eager to introduce the critically acclaimed show “Studio 360 with Kurt Andersen” to the Monday afternoon drive at 4pm.
Peabody Award-winning show "Studio 360 with Kurt Andersen" is a smart and surprising guide to what's happening in pop culture and the arts. Each week, Kurt Andersen introduces you to the people who are creating and shaping our culture. Life is busy – so let "Studio 360" steer you to the must-see movie this weekend, the next book for your nightstand, or the song that will change your life.
Kurt Andersen – novelist, journalist, and co-founder of legendary "Spy" magazine – gets inside the creative mind through conversations with guests such as Yo-Yo Ma, Zadie Smith, Sean Lennon, Sean Penn, Walter Mosely, Dolly Parton, Ang Lee, Dave Eggers, Frank Gehry, and Tori Amos.
"Studio 360" is the place where a Freudian shrink can analyze a videogame about bunnies, fifteen artists sail the Arctic on a schooner, and astronauts play piano in the International Space Station. Spend an hour at Coney Island with the band They Might Be Giants, walk through steel monoliths with sculptor Richard Serra, and hang out with indie rock stars in an Omaha basement.
"Studio 360 with Kurt Andersen", the new Monday night cultural guide in Atlanta only on AM 1690 “The Voice of the Arts”.
This week on “Studio 360”, Kurt Andersen talks with the author Rebecca Stead. Her novel "When You Reach Me", about a 12-year-old latchkey kid in gritty 1970s New York, just won the Newbery Medal for children's literature. Stead tells Kurt how she based her heroine, a sixth-grader named Miranda, on her own latchkey childhood in callous 1970s New York City.
Next, Kurt moves on to Studio 360’s redesign of Valentine's Day. We hear from the husband- wife team who run the Austin design firm Under Consideration. Armin Vit and Bryony Gomez-Palacio work to upgrade this fraught holiday. Studio 360 commissioned them, but they consider their client "all of mankind."
Don’t miss the “Aha Moment: John Zorn with a Schmear”, Niki Russ Federman, fourth generation of the smoked fish dynasty Russ & Daughters, resisted joining the family business. She explains why she owes her career choice to hipster klezmorim and the musician-composer John Zorn. Also on the scene, Australian (and now Icelandic) composer Ben Frost's music is electronic, classical, beautiful, and scary all at the same time. Kurt talks to Frost about his new album "By the Throat."
This, The Grammy’s, Producer T-Bone Burnett, and More! Don’t miss it! And make sure to stay tuned for “The Long Drive Home” with host Brandon Bush, from Sugarland following “Studio 360” from 5-7pm!
