8th Annual Earth Day Kids Fest to be Held on Saturday, April 17, 2010

Hosted by the Captain Planet Foundation and the Chattahoochee Nature Center

ATLANTA – January 22, 2010 – The 8th Annual Earth Day Kids Fest (EDKF) hosted by the Captain Planet Foundation (CPF) and the Chattahoochee Nature Center (CNC), with Macy’s as presenting sponsor and Comcast as presenting media sponsor promises to be education and fun rolled into one! Taking place on April 17, 2010, from 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. at the Chattahoochee Nature Center, this event is a unique and exciting hands-on environmental education event where we encourage youngsters to take the first steps in becoming environmental stewards. Through engaging activities and performances, kids are energized with empowering information, allowing them to lead the way in preserving and protecting our biological diversity and natural resources.

“We are looking forward to another fantastic year for Earth Day Kids Fest,” says Laura Turner Seydel, Captain Planet Foundation Chairperson. “Our staff at the Captain Planet Foundation, along with our partner, the Chattahoochee Nature Center, and a stellar group of volunteers work really hard to make each year bigger and better. I am confident that those who attend will enjoy the environmental education, "hands on" activities and the entertainment. This is a wonderful opportunity to get children (and families) outdoors and learning."

With a spectacular and diverse line-up of “edutainment” on the horizon, the entire day is sure to inspire children to take action, even in the smallest ways, to help save the planet! In fact, this is your chance to meet Captain Planet in person, as he will be on-hand to take photos with budding Planeteers! His cartoons will even be showing in the Cowie Weiss Theater as part of the day’s activities. CPF will also have an example of a Captain Planet’s Learning Garden on display as well as a planting activity for children. Attendees can also enjoy live musical performances by Billy Jonas and local schools such as Ford Elementary School in Acworth. CNC will sponsor live animal presentations to bring the outdoors up close and personal. Atlanta Falcon’s Fullback, Ovie Mughelli, will present the “recycle relay” from his youth football camp, giving kids an opportunity to experience his “enviro-fitness” program! Guests can even get their faces painted or paddle a canoe on the CNC Beaver Pond. Numerous other groups and environmental organizations will be present with booths to help everyone explore eco-themes through education. Additionally, Freshens will provide refreshing smoothies for kids of all ages. There will be a green marketplace for the adults to peruse an array of earth-friendly household goods. And healthy, delicious snacks will be complimentary for guests.

The price of admission is $5 for children, $6 for seniors, $8 for adults, and children under two are free. Attendees who ride a bike from home will also receive free admission. A complimentary shuttle bus service will be available from St. Francis School near the corner of Willeo/Azalea and Highway 120. Carpooling is strongly encouraged as parking is limited.
