Channel 2 Action Roars through January Sweeps

The Lion In Winter Weather Ranks #1 In All Newscasts

 

ATLANTA February 8, 2010 – Channel 2 Action News won every newscast in the January Sweeps, which ran January 7-February 3, 2010.

“We saw substantial increases in our newscasts overall,” said Bill Hoffman, vice president and general manager for Channel 2 WSB-TV. “Channel 2 Action News at 6 p.m. hit its highest mark in the Adults 25-54 demographic since Local People Meters began measuring them overnight. That’s a real tribute to our team’s hard work especially in the face of our competing networks strongest schedules of the year.”

“Our viewers really depend on Severe Weather Team 2,” added Marian Pittman, news director, “And they turned to us on every platform as January opened with the coldest weather in decades.”

NEWSCAST GROWTH The station’s 5 and 6 a.m., Noon, 5, 6, and 11 p.m. local newscasts each grew in rating and share over the January 2009 ratings in Adults 25-54 demographics.

LOCAL NEWS DOMINANCE Channel 2 Action News drew 54% of the overall news audience. WAGA came in second with 24%, WXIA was third with 12%, WGCL was fourth with nine percent, and WATL was fifth at 1% (see chart below).

The tables below show the Household and Adult 25-54 audiences based on the ratings information. The breakouts show the average number household audience and the Adult 25-54 audience watching a particular station during a given time.

· #1 Weeknights, 12-1 a.m. ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live”
