GREENCRAFT AT THE 21st ANNUAL AMERICAN CRAFT COUNCIL SHOW IN ATLANTA
Over a hundred participating artists will show and sell GreenCraft items March 12-14

Atlanta, GA (March 11, 2010) - Eco-conscious artwork with a focus on sustainability will be widely represented at this year's American Craft Council Show in Atlanta. With 113 unique artists creating ceramics, furniture, fashion wearables, jewelry and more from natural and replaceable materials, recycled materials or found objects and sustainable processes - this year's Show will help prove the popularity and wide-reaching influence the burgeoning Green movement has over the country's fine arts community.

Held March 12-14 at the Cobb Galleria Centre, the American Craft Council Show in Atlanta features artists whose work illustrates the visionary techniques and materials of the handmade craft movement. Guests can anticipate finding original, handcrafted work from over 240 fine craft artists, with many items under $100 and thousands of other pieces priced accordingly. From custom carrying bags and purses to functional elegant furnishings to hand-painted silk to innovative fiber work to a myriad of accessories, the Show is the preeminent destination to find environmentally-friendly fine craft pieces that will enhance and distinguish any wardrobe or home.

Among the 119 artists who qualified for the Craft Council Show's GreenCraft designation are:

  • Laura Martin, (Atlanta, GA) makes wearable and functional art - computer bags, yoga mat bags, grocery bags and diaper bags - from recycled ties and then uses the cut scraps to stuff decorative tie pillows;
  • Jane Burke, (Duluth, GA) who creates enchanting, detailed marquetry (woodwork) involving objects of natural beauty: birds, insects, and flowers;
  • Susan Fleischer, (Baltimore, MD) whose vibrant, intricate jewelry pieces are created from natural clay polymers;
  • Peter Czuk, (Kendall, MI) who builds one-of-a-kind furniture that is both inspired by and respectful of the beautiful woods from which they're formed;
  • and Joan McGee, (Sarasota, FL) whose high-end fashionable clothing is designed with only the finest natural pigments and cloths.

"I look forward to attending this Show to see which artists use recycled materials and sustainable processes," said Stephanie Armistead, Managing Director of Atlanta-based GreenBusiness Works. "Their innovative use of found objects, traditional processes passed on through generations and careful stewardship of the environment is inspiring on many levels."
