Preparing Tomorrows Leaders With 21st Century Skills Today
One of the biggest challenges facing today's youth is their state of readiness in the face of a global marketplace.
The American Institute for Managing Diversity Inc, (AIMD) is responding to this gap with the 21st Century Youth Leadership Council (YLC) program. As a member of the Youth Leadership Council, participants will have the opportunity to enhance and refine important skills required for the 21st century workforce operating in the global marketplace. The program focuses on deepening the understanding of how diversity, particularly cultural differences, influences actions and decisions, awareness of world affairs, and the interconnectedness of the world's economy.
Working with 10th and 11th grade high school students over a three month period (six sessions from April 9 - June 30), the YLC program will provide participants with 21st century skills necessary to succeed, as well as an expanded awareness of the global marketplace and their current and potential role in an increasingly complex world.
Youth will have opportunities to build their applied skills in the following areas:
- Critical Thinking and Decision-Making
- Problem Solving
- Leadership
- Team Building and Collaboration
- Creativity and innovation (through group work)
- Diversity skills building (including cultural competency skills)
- Professionalism
The YLC program will include a service learning component that will provide youth with opportunities to practice these skills on real time issues in their communities. We are also working with an array of organizations to identify mentors, speakers, summer internships, scholarships, job shadowing and other experiences that will present them with options, inspiration and confidence.
