Yossi Vardi, ICQ Co-Founder, to Keynote the 9th Annual Eagle Star Awards Gala May 12th, 2010
Laurie Olivier and Consulate General to be Honored at the event hosted by Georgia-Pacific
One of Israel's top business technology leaders, Dr. Yossi Vardi, will be the featured Israeli keynote speaker at the 9th annual Eagle Star Awards Gala. As an investor and advisor, Vardi has helped more than 60 startups, among them Mirabilis - creator of instant messaging ICQ. Mirabilis, which practically had no revenues, was sold to AOL just 19 months after it released its product for over $400 million. The sale inspired a whole generation of young Israelis to open start ups. According to Forbes, "Overnight a new phrase 'the Mirabilis Effect', became popular as young Israeli entrepreneurs yearned to copy the company's success." Yossi has been a strategic advisor to Amazon and AOL, and a venture partner and Pitango, Israel's largest VC fund. Vardi won the TechCrunch Europe 2009 award, received Honorary Doctorate from the Technion, and twice received the Prime Minister award for life achievements in high tech.
