Atlanta (April 2010) – A variety of businesses and organizations are joining together to sponsor an event honoring seven women who’ve overcome daunting challenges to pursue higher education and a better life. PWFI is honoring the women – who have overcome challenges ranging from early motherhood to critical illness, abuse and crime – with $5,000 scholarships to go toward college expenses.

The Possible Woman Foundation International (PWFI) will honor them on Monday, April 19 at a gala titled Orchidea: A Celebration of New Beginnings. The event will be held at the Wimbish House (Atlanta Woman’s Club) at 1150 Peachtree St. in Atlanta starting at 6:30 p.m. Radio personality Vikki Locke of B98.5 FM is the Honorary Chair.

Orchidea’s sponsors include Affairs to Remember, Air Tran, AMI Wines, Chevrolet, Martha Washington Hotel & Spa, Palace Resorts, Porter Keadle Moore, LLP, Teryl Jackson Photography, Thornton Communications and the Women of AT&T.

PWFI has provided more than $150,000 in scholarships since 2001, giving women the opportunity to continue their education and advance professionally. One hundred percent of PWFI's operating expenses are paid by the contributions made by its board members; outside donations go directly to scholarships and minimal related expenses.

PWFI is a 501(c) 3 non-profit foundation that gives scholarships to women and is funded solely through contributions. Although both organizations were founded by Linda Wind, The Possible Woman Foundation International and Wind Enterprises, which conducts the Possible Woman Leadership Conferences, are separate entities with no financial or legal affiliation.

Gala tickets are still available. To purchase individual seats, buy a table or make a donation, visit http://www.possiblewomanfoundation.org.
