NPR CEO, Vivian Schiller, Discusses the Organization's Success Story at the Atlanta Press Club

Schiller heads NPR's worldwide media operations, including its partnerships with more than 900 public radio stations and their service to nearly 30 million listeners. Under her leadership, NPR has continued its commitment to journalistic excellence while embracing digital and mobile technologies to extend the reach of public media. NPR was recognized by Fast Company magazine as one of the World's Most Innovative Media Companies in 2009 and 2010 and was named an Innovation All-Star for 2010.
Prior to joining NPR in January 2009, Schiller was senior vice president at The New York Times Company and general manager of NYTimes.com, where she led day-to-day operations of the largest newspaper website on the Internet. Before that, she served as senior vice president and general manager of the Discovery Times Channel and senior vice president of CNN Productions, where she oversaw long-form programming efforts. Documentaries and series produced under her executive leadership earned numerous honors, including three Peabody Awards, four Alfred I. duPont-Columbia University Awards, and dozens of Emmys.
NPR has blended a successful hybrid of traditional and new media and has expanded rapidly onto digital platforms with the launch of the NPR News iPhone and Music apps, NPR iPad app and optimized site, and NPR News Android app. Downloads on the iPad app recently surpassed the half-million mark and the NPR mobile web experiences 20,000 page views per month. Social media has also grown significantly in the last two years. The NPR Facebook page now hosts over one million fans, more than any other media organization.
