Racetrac Delivers on $10,000 Commitment to Aid Cobb County Flood Victims

Atlanta-based convenience store chain donates gas cards, bottled water and ice

RaceTrac Petroleum Inc., operator of more than 250 retail gasoline convenience stores, will supply $10,000 worth of gas cards, bottled water and ice to citizens affected by the recent flooding in Cobb County beginning today. Throughout the week, those in need should stop by the Sweet Water Valley C.A.M.P. located at 6289 Veterans Memorial Highway in Austell to pick up the supplies between the hours of 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Last week, the Center for Family Resources (CFR) hosted a public meeting at the Cobb County Chamber of Commerce soliciting donations and other assistance. RaceTrac, the only corporation in attendance, decided to help ensure that a few of the victims' immediate needs were met. Many other local agencies and community members also stepped up to the challenge.

"The cooperative and collaborative effort and the generosity of this community will help to ensure as many residents as possible receive the assistance they need," said Jeri Barr, CFR CEO. "RaceTrac was among the first of our corporate partners to join the effort, but many organizations—and many people—have helped us help those in need."

Sweet Water Valley C.A.M.P. will serve as the stop for the 500 cases of bottled water and the ice, which will be provided in disposable coolers for those affected to reuse for their various needs. Also, $6,200 worth of gas cards are available for pick up beginning today at the CFR headquarters, which is located at 995 Roswell St, NE, Suite 100 in Marietta.

"RaceTrac is committed to being a good neighbor and we strive to do all we can to improve the lives of our guests and employees," said Sheridan Peterson, marketing manager, RaceTrac. "RaceTrac is based in Cobb County. This is our community, and the residents affected are our neighbors. Taking an active role in the effort was just the right thing to do. Neighbors help neighbors."

Sweetwater Valley C.A.M.P. has been designated as a central location for flood assistance. Representatives from CFR will be on-site all week to provide other resources including information on financial assistance, temporary housing assistance, food, clothing, school supplies and other hygiene items.
