BBA Welcomes David Ratcliffe, Chairman, President and CEO of Southern Company, at Quarterly Luncheon on April 15

"The Energy Industry in Today's World"

At the next Buckhead Business Association's Quarterly Luncheon on Thursday, April 15 at 103 West, the active civic organization welcomes David M. Ratcliffe, Chairman, President and CEO of Southern Company as its keynote speaker. The topic of his speech will be ‘The Energy Industry in Today's World'.

"This will be an august opportunity for our members and guests to hear David Ratcliffe speak in person," invites Heather Wright, president of the Buckhead Business Association. "He is one of the most respected business leaders in the South, and we all realize that the growth of our region is directly linked to the successful production and distribution of energy."

Ratcliffe joined Southern Company as a biologist with Georgia Power in 1971 and has been in his current position since 2004. From 1999 to 2004 he was president and CEO of Georgia Power, Southern Company's largest subsidiary. He also served as president and CEO of Mississippi Power. Ratcliffe has held executive and management positions in the areas of finance, external affairs, fuel services, operations and planning, and research and environmental affairs.

With 42,000 megawatts of electricity generating capacity, Southern Company's output (total kilowatt-hour sales) constitutes about 4.8 percent of the U.S. electricity market—a market shared by about 1,017 utilities plus 2,475 non-utility producers. (Source: Ventyx, DOE)

Based in Atlanta, Georgia, operations include generation plants, high-voltage transmission lines, low-voltage distribution lines, and customer sales and service. Southern Company's competitive generation company also constructs, acquires, and manages generation assets and sells electricity on the wholesale market.
