Sandy Springs Plaza's Enchanted Closet Opens Boutique to Foster Self Sufficiency and Youth Entrepreneurship

Enchanted Closet Boutique Grand Opening and Summer Sale, Saturday, June 26, 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

The Enchanted Closet Inc., a nonprofit benefiting over 3000 metropolitan Atlanta girls since 2003 will celebrate the opening of their boutique with a Summer sale on Saturday, June 26, 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. (brief program at 2:30 p.m.) at 6309-2B Roswell Road in the Sandy Springs Plaza. The public may purchase new and lightly loved items, including a variety of designer brand dresses, purses, and shoes from $5.00-$25.00.

The boutique is the realization of a long time dream and was made possible through the generosity of donors. Having the boutique will enable the organization to continually accept donations and distribute formal dresses throughout the year, not just during prom season, provide low cost dresses, shoes, and accessories to the public, and provide funds for its programs designed to increase the self awareness, self esteem, and self sufficiency of girls ages 13-19, primarily from low income families.

"Our GIRL$ Service-Learning Program participants and select supporters will be able to display and sale their arts and crafts at the boutique. With the recent launch of our Artists and Entrepreneurs Series and the opening of our boutique, we hope to inspire a new generation of economic and social entrepreneurs that live in their passion, are self sufficient citizens and serve the community", stated Bonita C. Johnson, President and CEO.

About the Enchanted Closet:
The mission of the Enchanted Closet , Inc. is to physically, mentally, and emotionally outfit Metro Atlanta high school girls from low-income families through programs that prepare them for social and professional milestones.

The Enchanted Closet, Inc. began as a service project to provide prom dresses to underserved girls in metro Atlanta that may not have otherwise had the opportunity to experience the joy of attending one of the most memorable events in a teenager’s life. With the tremendous support and overwhelming response of citizens and businesses in Atlanta, the Enchanted Closet incorporated in 2003, and has grown into a full blown non-profit service organization. Enchanted Closet’s purpose is to cultivate the self awareness, self esteem, and self sufficiency of girls.

Realizing the connection between clothing and self esteem, we strive to boost the confidence and self esteem of girls by making sure they look and feel good. Over 3000 girls have received dresses through the Prom Dress Giveaway Program.

The GIRL$ Service Learning Program combines monthly classroom instruction with community service, and provides tools for self sufficiency through economic and social entrepreneurship. More than 400 girls have benefited from life skills workshops provided by the organization since 2004.

The Student Ambassador Program enables girls, beginning in the 10th grade, to participate in community service activities, experience teamwork, and develop their communication and leadership skills. Student Ambassadors participate in and promote Enchanted Closet activities, and advise the Board of Planners on the relevancy of activities to teens.

The Enchanted Closet, Inc. is the 2008 recipient of the Georgia State University President’s Outstanding Community Partner Award for Community Service and Social Action, and a recent recipient of the Independent Charities Seal of Excellence. The Seal of Excellence is awarded to the members of Independent Charities of America and Local Independent Charities of America that have, upon rigorous independent review, been able to certify, document, and demonstrate on an annual basis that they meet the highest standards of public accountability, program effectiveness, and cost effectiveness.
