Enchanted Closet Launches GIRL$ MOVE! Health and Wellness Program

GIRL$ MOVE! Gets Families Moving with Beyonce's

Inspired by First Lady Michelle Obama's Let's Move! Initiative, the goal of the GIRL$ MOVE! Program is to help reduce childhood obesity and promote healthy lifestyles. While the primary target of the program is girls ages 12-19, free interactive seminars and activities will be offered to engage families in healthy eating/cooking, healthy lifestyles, and increased physical activity.

According to Better Health USA, the percentage of overweight or obese children has doubled over the past 30 years to 25 percent of the under-19 population. A child who is overweight has a greater chance of becoming an overweight adult, putting them at high risk for diabetes, heart problems, cancer, high blood pressure and other serious diseases. The Enchanted Closet aims to provide education, options, and opportunities to help reduce childhood obesity and to promote healthy lifestyles.

Each Thursday evening for the last two weeks, the organization has been offering girls and their families an opportunity to learn Beyonce's "Move Your Body" routine developed for the National Let's Move Initiative. Dance choreographer, Jerod Times of M.O.V.E. Artist Development has partnered with the Enchanted Closet and has been teaching the routine which combines traditional exercise and hip hop, Latin, and dance hall moves to make a really fun workout.

Jahleeka "Jelly" Morris #1155 of BET's Born to Dance Reality Show is joining the Enchanted Closet for their GIRL$ MOVE! Program, Saturday, August 13th at 4:00 p.m. Jelly will share her inspirational story, dance with the girls, and be the "Beyonce" in their "Move Your Body" Flash Mob. Being on the internationally-televised show, coached by Lady Gaga's choreographer, Laurieann Gibson is a huge accomplishment for Jelly, who grew up in the projects, felt limited by her size, and once had low self esteem. "Dancing is not only a personal challenge for me, it is also the way I exude the confidence I once lacked", says Jelly. "

Girls and their families are invited to join the organization again on Saturday, August 13th where they will participate in the "Move Your Body" Flash Mob during the Visual Art Physique Competition at the Porter Sandford Performing Arts and Community Center in Decatur. The competition is the brain child of William Leecan, Founder of World-Class Classic Physiques, and pays tribute to the arts. Male bodybuilders from the novice to the seasoned veteran will compete for their favorite charity. "We are honored to have the continual support of Mr. Leecan and others in the arts and fitness communities and are very excited about doing Beyonce's "Move Your Body" routine as an interactive tribute to the National Let's Move! Initiative, and to show girls and their families how fun exercise can be", said Bonita Johnson, President and CEO.
