Kids & Pros Donates Youth Football Equipment to City of Atlanta Recreation Centers
Kids & Pros, a nonprofit organization led by Atlanta Falcons alumni Buddy Curry and Bobby Butler, is donating helmets, shoulder pads and equipment to provide hundreds of Atlanta youth an opportunity to participate in the City of Atlanta’s fall football program.
With the donations, Kids & Pros is joining Mayor Kasim Reed’s campaign to strengthen the city’s recreation centers, which are being redesigned as Centers of Hope to serve children and families with year-round programming. Through its recreation centers, the city operates a football program for kids 5-12 years of age.
Kids & Pros is donating more than 200 helmets, 300 sets of pants and pads, and 150 shoulder pads. Curry and Butler organized the equipment donations with help from Alpharetta Youth Football Association, Bennett Park Football Association, Northside Youth Association, and Wesleyan School.
"Kids & Pros is devoted to giving every child in the City of Atlanta a chance to play," said Buddy Curry, a Falcons linebacker from 1980-87 and NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year. "Through our camps, coaching clinics and other programs, Kids & Pros builds character and physical fitness through athletics."
Through its series of football camps and clinics, every year Kids & Pros delivers non-contact instruction to approximately 2,000 boys and girls ages 7-13. With funding from the Atlanta Falcons Youth Foundation, Kids & Pros offers free summer camps for boys and girls in the City of Atlanta and provides clinics for girls participating in the Boys & Girls Clubs flag football league. Kids & Pros organizes current and retired NFL players to provide hands-on instruction and to teach sportsmanship, integrity and teamwork.
The City of Atlanta’s youth football program fields 50 teams and serves 1,500 kids. Games will be held at Pittman Park and Anderson Park.
