Educator Kim Bearden to be Honored at Possible Woman Leadership Conference

Keynote speaker at Possible Woman 2012 is Connie Glaser, global expert in women's leadership

Innovative educator Kim Bearden, co-founder of the Ron Clark Academy, will be honored with a Making a Difference Award at the 16th Annual Possible Woman Conference Thursday April 26 at Atlanta Marriott Marquis.

Bearden is also executive director and language arts teacher at the Ron Clark Academy, a school coined by Oprah Winfrey as "The Best School in America." The Ron Clark Academy (RCA) is a highly acclaimed, nonprofit middle school in Atlanta that promotes innovation and engages its students through energetic teaching balanced by a strict code of discipline. Each year, thousands of educators from around the world participate in RCA's Educator Training Programs to learn to replicate the school's style, philosophy and success in their own schools. More than 13,000 teachers have come to RCA to observe co-founder Ron Clark and Kim Bearden's classes, attend their workshops, and learn about their teaching methods.

A dynamic and innovative educator, Bearden delivers inspiring keynote messages to thousands of educators each year. At the Ron Clark Academy, she participates in all aspects of the educational process. With a 25-year teaching career, she has been a teacher, curriculum director, school board member, staff development trainer and middle school principal.

She uses unique teaching strategies that motivate even the most restless learners. Her students consistently score among the highest in the state on standardized tests. She has proven that the required curriculum can be taught in a way that reinforces academic rigor while making learning an adventure.

Bearden has received numerous awards for her creative and dynamic teaching styles. The Milken Family Foundation selected her as one of 155 teachers from across the nation to receive the Award for Excellence in Education. Bearden was chosen from among 70,000 nominations to be honored as the Disney American Teacher Awards Outstanding Middle School Humanities Teacher. She met Clark, who was then teaching in Harlem,NY, at the Disney Awards presentation and later decided to join forces to open an innovative school in Atlanta.

She is a resident of Marietta, GA and, as a Cobb County educator (then known as Kimberly Stewart), was chosen from among 7,000 teachers as Teacher of the Year for 1998-99. She was also a finalist for Georgia Teacher of the Year and the Phenomenal Woman of Character Award. She was a member of the Leadership Atlanta class of 2008.

Awards for Possible Woman of the Year and Woman of Inspiration will also be presented at the conference which features global expert on women’s leadership Connie Glaser as luncheon keynote speaker.
