Good Sports & Atlanta Falcons Youth Foundation Donate $122,000 Worth of Fitness Equipment
Donations to 10 Youth Football Programs Will Expand Opportunities for 2,000 Youth
Good Sports, Inc. and the Atlanta Falcons Youth Foundation (AFYF) have awarded $122,000 worth of athletic equipment to 20 community organizations working to improve youth fitness, reduce childhood obesity and promote healthy lifestyles for Georgia’s youth.
The awards include equipment donations to 10 youth football programs serving 2,000 youth across Georgia. By providing new helmets, shoulder pads and other equipment, Good Sports and AFYF are expanding opportunities for safe participation in youth football this fall.
“Since joining forces in 2010, Good Sports and the Atlanta Falcons Youth Foundation have worked toward the shared vision of providing every child in Georgia with the opportunity to be active, healthy, and happy,” said Melissa Harper, CEO, Good Sports. “Working collaboratively with AFYF has enabled us to reach increasing numbers of children across the state, giving them the essentials they need to get off the sidelines and play their favorite sports in safe, structured environments.”
“Through our partnership with Good Sports, we are able to donate everything from shoulder pads to tumbling mats, said John Bare, vice president of AFYF. “Every piece of equipment helps one more Georgia kid get into the game.”
Through an ongoing partnership, Good Sports and AFYF provide equipment donations that increase opportunities for low-income youth to participate in regular physical activity. The application process is open to programs across the state.
Community organizations interested in applying can fill out an application on the Good Sports website, www.goodsports.org. The next deadline for applications is December 1, 2013.
Good Sports commits to providing at least $2 in equipment for every $1 of grant funding.
Since 2010, AFYF has leveraged $210,000 in AFYF grants to generate equipment donations worth $510,000, reaching 105 groups in 33 counties across Georgia. The donations have opened up new opportunities for 49,000 kids to be more physically active.
Since Arthur Blank acquired the Atlanta Falcons in 2002, AFYF has grown to be the largest owner-funded foundation in the National Football League, providing more than $18 million in grants to nonprofit organizations across the state of Georgia to improve youth fitness and reduce childhood obesity. Working together, Good Sports and the AFYF will provide Georgia youth organizations with the equipment necessary to level the playing field for disadvantaged youth participating in physical activity.
