Good Sports and Atlanta Falcons Youth Foundation Donate $80,000 Worth of Fitness Equipment

Donations to Youth Athletic Programs Will Expand Opportunities for 6,200 Youth

Good Sports, Inc. and the Atlanta Falcons Youth Foundation (AFYF) have awarded more than $80,000 worth of athletic equipment to 19 community organizations working to improve youth fitness, reduce childhood obesity and promote healthy lifestyles for Georgia’s youth.

“Good Sports seeks to ensure that all children have the opportunity to play, regardless of their ability to pay” said Melissa Harper, CEO of Good Sports. “Thanks to the continued support of the Atlanta Falcons Youth Foundation, we have once again been able to get thousands of kids stuck on the sidelines across the state of Georgia back in the game.”

Through an ongoing partnership, Good Sports and AFYF provide equipment donations that increase opportunities for low-income youth to participate in regular physical activity. Good Sports is able to provide at least $2 in equipment for every $1 of grant funding. The current donations will expand opportunities for 6,200 youth.

Through the AFYF partnership, since 2010, Good Sports has leveraged $236,000 in grant funding to provide equipment donations worth $590,000. Donations have served 124 groups in 43 counties across Georgia, opening up new opportunities for 55,000 kids to be more physically active.

“Every piece of equipment is removing a barrier to participation for one more Georgia kid,” said John Bare, vice president of AFYF. “Communities across Georgia are stepping up to provide more young people with creative opportunities to be active for 60 minutes every day.”

Since Arthur Blank acquired the Atlanta Falcons in 2002, AFYF has grown to be the largest owner-funded foundation in the National Football League, providing more than $20 million in grants to nonprofit organizations across the state of Georgia to improve youth fitness and reduce childhood obesity. Working together, Good Sports and AFYF will provide Georgia youth organizations with the equipment necessary to give disadvantaged youth the opportunity to participate in physical activity.
