Hannah Solar Installs First Solar Energy Tree in Atlanta

Innovative Structure Accentuates the Visibility of Solar Energy in Georgia

Hannah Solar, the largest full service solar integrator and renewable energy solutions provider in the Southeast, is proud to announce the arrival of the first “solar energy tree” structure in the state of Georgia.  These structures, designed and manufactured by Spotlight Solar, will be “planted” the first day of spring, March 20, 2014 at the Hannah Solar headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia.  The bright orange artistic structure stands 22 feet tall and incorporates 12 distinctive Lumos solar panels.  It will provide enough energy through Hannah Solar’s electric vehicle charging stations to power a Nissan Leaf over 6,000 miles each year.  With a look that recalls a tree or a person reaching skyward, the striking structures will be the first “architectural clean energy machines” installed in the City of Atlanta.

Currently, the state of Georgia is the fastest growing solar market in the United States, ranking 7th nationally in solar electric capacity.  In 2013, $189 million was invested in Georgia to install solar for home, business and utility use.  This represents a 795% increase over the previous year, and is expected to grow again this year. There is enough solar energy installed in the state to power 10,600 homes.

The newly renovated Atlanta headquarters of Hannah Solar incorporates 254 rooftop solar modules, making more energy than the building and its’ 23 employees consume.   The building is designed to be energy positive with LED lights, highly efficient HVAC systems and a tight building envelope.   The solar tree provides more energy to help power Hannah Solar’s electric vehicle charging stations, ensuring Atlanta’s electric vehicles have a pollution-free power source.  The solar tree will produce over 120,000 kilowatt hours of clean energy over its lifetime and eliminate pollution equivalent to burning 9,000 gallons of gasoline, while saving over $15,000 in electric energy costs or $31,500 in gas costs.  Hannah Solar was honored to be selected as the first Georgia partner of Spotlight Solar, a national specialist in architectural solar structures designed for high visibility locations.

“The Atlanta arrival of this solar tree structure will literally stop traffic,” said Peter H. Marte, CEO, Hannah Solar, LLC. “We hope these structures will foster the adoption of renewable energy and environmental stewardship while educating consumers and businesses alike about the importance of solar energy to their business and the rapid development of a multi-billion dollar industry in our state.”

Craig Merrigan CEO of Spotlight Solar commented, “Hannah Solar is an innovator. They are leading in the remarkable growth of the solar energy industry in Georgia. We are proud to be their partner in making solar visible and beautiful.”
