Atlanta Falcons Youth Foundation Awards $90,000 Grant for New Fitness Center in Vine City
Falcons Players Will Join Urban Perform on Saturday, May 31 for Falcons Fitness Day
The Atlanta Falcons Youth Foundation (AFYF) has awarded a three-year, $90,000 grant to Urban Perform to open a new non-profit fitness center offering free programming for youth and $2 group fitness classes for adults in the Vine City neighborhood.
“We are extremely grateful for the grant from the Atlanta Falcons Youth Foundation,” stated Laura Pritchard, Executive Director, Urban Perform. “It is allowing us to quadruple the number of kids and families we serve. We are excited to be a part of health changes in the community!”
On Saturday, May 31, Atlanta Falcons players and cheerleaders will celebrate the opening of Urban Perform by hosting Falcons Fitness Day at the new gym. The event is free, and children and families are welcome to attend from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and participate in fitness challenges, visit local vendors on-site and get autographs from Atlanta Falcons players.
“Thanks to Urban Perform, residents of Vine City, English Avenue and other Westside neighborhoods have a safe, friendly spot to gather for healthy activities,” said John Bare, vice president of the Atlanta Falcons Youth Foundation. “Urban Perform offers children and families lots of fun ways to be physically active for 60 minutes a day.”
Urban Perform uses exercise to teach life skills to youth in the English Avenue, Vine City and Washington Park communities. The nonprofit gym offers free programming for youth, including the opportunity to train for triathlons and 5K races and the chance to learn weightlifting techniques, and offers $2 group fitness classes for adults, including yoga, Zumba, circuit training, kickboxing and Pilates.
“Urban Perform gives residents an opportunity to learn about healthy choices, while the staff and volunteers are also nurturing the talent of neighborhood youth,” said Jermaine Sheppard, a member of the Urban Perform Community Advisory Board. “Through Urban Perform, young people get a chance to reach their full potential.”
