Good Sports and Atlanta Falcons Youth Foundation Donate $35,000 Worth of Fitness Equipment
Eight Youth Organizations Serving Atlanta's Historic Westside Neighborhoods to Benefit
ATLANTA, July 28, 2014 –Good Sports, Inc. and the Atlanta Falcons Youth Foundation (AFYF) have awarded $35,000 worth of athletic equipment to eight community organizations working to improve youth fitness, reduce childhood obesity and promote healthy lifestyles for youth in Atlanta’s Historic Westside Neighborhoods.
“We are grateful to the Atlanta Falcons Youth Foundation for their continued partnership to provide this equipment to the youth in Atlanta’s Westside,” said Melissa Harper, CEO of Good Sports. “Good Sports seeks to ensure high activity levels in all youth, regardless of their ability to pay, and the Atlanta Falcons Youth Foundation enables us to continue that support in Georgia.”
Through an ongoing partnership, Good Sports and AFYF provide equipment donations that remove barriers for youth to participate in regular physical activity. Good Sports is able to provide up to $2 in equipment for every $1 of grant funding.
Since forming a partnership in 2010, Good Sports and AFYF have generated equipment donations worth $625,000 to 128 groups in 43 counties across Georgia, serving nearly 59,000 youth.
The current round of donations is expanding opportunities for youth to participate in a variety of activities, including yoga, boxing, tennis, floor hockey and hula hoop games.
One of the program recipients, Pastor Bruce Francis of the Cosmopolitan AME Church, is ecstatic about what this donation will do for the enhancement of their youth programming: “The Cosmopolitan AME Church is extremely delighted to receive sports equipment from the Atlanta Falcons Youth Foundation and Good Sports. With this grant, the Cosmopolitan Youth Ministry will reach more children of all ages in the Vine City and English Ave. communities. It is our desire to engage the children of the these two neighboring communities in more fitness and sports related activities, and we want to encourage more children to make healthy and wholesome life choices.”
The application period for the next cycle of Good Sports – AFYF equipment donations is open through December 5, 2014, with applications being accepted from across the state of Georgia. Groups interested in applying may submit an application by visiting Good Sports’ website – www.goodsports.org – and completing the online application.
