iStudyforSuccess Curriculum Introduces 'Social and Soft Skills' Program

28 Character Building Sessions Facilitate Positive Interaction and Communication

"iStudyforSuccess," a nine-week study skills program that helps middle and high school students increase comprehension and improve study habits, has been expanded and enhanced in time for the 2014-2015 school year.

Launched last year by Forsyth County business woman, Julie Wilson, who also founded Qwizzy's World and Cram Stoppers, iStudyforSuccess ( has been utilized as a 'Connections' class, as additional support and enrichment for students in specialty programs, and as supplemental material for Counselors, in both classroom and home school settings.

The 25-session curriculum covers topics such as: Time Management, Organizational Skills, Goal Setting, Vocabulary Expansion, Quiz Creation/Test Taking Skills, Study Habits, and Reading and Note Taking Strategies.

And this fall, students will be introduced to study and reading strategies, along with vital interaction and character building skills, via the newest addition to iStudyforSuccess -- the 'Social and Soft Skills' program.

Social and Soft Skills are quickly being identified as key traits contributing to long-term career and personal success. Soft Skills are personal traits that show a presence of moral compass, social grace and good ethics, defining one’s character. The 28-session Social and Soft Skills curriculum builds self-respect and helps to facilitate interaction and communication with others. Introducing these skills can create respectable leaders, positive role models, and great team members.

Some of the topics presented in the 28 mini-sessions include: Empathy vs. Sympathy, RESPECT!, Self-Monitoring/Patience, Commitment/Timeliness, Trustworthiness, Active Listening, and GRIT. Students are heavily engaged in group conversation and role-play during sessions. The program can be used as a class, as supplemental material by counselors or core class teachers, or as add-on material during implementation of the iStudyforSuccess Study Skills curriculum.  All materials are supplied, and step-by-step instruction means no training or planning is necessary.

Like the Study Skills program, a fun cartoon introduces each session, and all sessions are marked with an estimated completion time.  At the end of the session, a 'Takeaway' tip is offered, emphasizing to students the importance of retaining what they have learned.

"As an educator, I appreciate the hard work that has gone into the creative lessons found on  Lesson plans, handouts, activities, and videos are easy to access and ready to go," commented Teresa Cockerham, a teacher at South Forsyth Middle School. "My students appreciate the humor in the cartoons and videos, as they learn important skills to help them become successful learners.  And teachers can use the entire curriculum, hand-pick lessons that are most applicable, or use selected lessons as a supplemental curriculum.  I highly recommend this resource-rich tool!"

The iStudyforSuccess curriculum is available for $195 per teacher license and does not expire until July 1, 2015. The new Social and Soft Skills sessions launch at the start of the new school year.

iStudyforSuccess is being implemented by schools in five states and the program is quite versatile, being used by teachers, parents, counselors, and tutors, for students in grades 5-8, in public and private schools.

"I am excited that the iStudyforSuccess program expands this year to the High School level with the Social and Soft Skills sessions being utilized as a supplement to the business ethics and soft skill training programs," commented Julie Wilson, iStudyforSuccess founder.  “We feel these new sessions round out the iStudyforSuccess curriculum – offering students both long-term educational and personal successes!
