Atlanta Falcons, Atlanta United FC & Good Sports Donate $100,000 in Fitness Equipment
December 4 is Deadline for Applications for the Next Round of Equipment Donations
The Atlanta Falcons Youth Foundation, Atlanta United and Good Sports, a national nonprofit, have teamed up on a new round of sports and fitness equipment donations to youth programs across Georgia. In total, 20 groups will receive $102,000 worth of new equipment, apparel and footwear.
This year for the first time, the city’s new MLS franchise, Atlanta United, is partnering with AFYF to give more youth greater access to a wide variety of sports and fitness programs. Eight of the organizations in this round of donations are receiving soccer equipment, including balls, goals, scrimmage vests, uniforms and boundary cones.
“We’re very excited to join with the Atlanta Falcons Youth Foundation and Good Sports in providing sports and fitness equipment to deserving youth in Georgia,” said Atlanta United president Darren Eales. “It’s important to us as a club to not only introduce youth to the game of soccer, but to give them access to the equipment and resources they need to be able to play and compete in their communities. We look forward to continuing to support the next generation of Georgia soccer players and supporters.”
Through a multiyear partnership, Good Sports, AFYF and Atlanta United provide equipment that removes barriers for youth to participate in regular physical activity. Good Sports utilizes its relationships with equipment manufacturers and distributors to provide free and deeply discounted equipment. The arrangement enables Good Sports to provide up to $2 in equipment for every $1 of grant funding.
“At Good Sports we strive to support programs that put children on the path to healthier, more active lifestyles,” says Melissa Harper, CEO of Good Sports. “The Atlanta Falcons Youth Foundation and Atlanta United are generously supporting this work and equipping kids in Georgia with the resources to get out and play.”
Since forming a partnership in 2010 with AFYF, Good Sports has provided equipment donations worth $840,000 to 147 groups in 55 counties across Georgia. The equipment donations have helped more than 78,000 youth get in the game.
The application period for the next cycle of AFYF-Atlanta United equipment donations is open through Friday, December 4, 2015, with applications being accepted from across the state of Georgia. If interested in applying, organizations and youth programs can submit an application by visiting Good Sports’ website – www.goodsports.org – and completing the online application. Approved applicants will be able to receive up to six (6) donations through Good Sports regular process over the next two years, and will also be considered for future grants through the Good Sports partnership with AFYF and Atlanta United. Any questions regarding the application can be directed to the Good Sports Community Team at firstname.lastname@example.org.
