Atlanta Falcons Youth Foundation & Good Sports - More than $100,000 in Donated Equipment

The Atlanta Falcons Youth Foundation and Good Sports, a national nonprofit, have teamed up to provide a new round of sports and fitness equipment donations to youth programs across Georgia.

Selected from more than 85 groups submitting applications, 19 youth programs and schools will receive more than $100,000 worth of athletic equipment, apparel, and footwear. The donations will remove barriers to participation for 9,518 Georgia children who would not otherwise get to take part in a wide variety of fitness activities and sports, including basketball, baseball, football, soccer, softball, track and volleyball.

“Using everything from hula hoops to football gear, Georgia communities are giving children fun new ways to be physically active,” said John Bare, vice president of The Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation, which administers AFYF grants. “With these supplies, more young people will be off the sideline and in the game.”

Now in its sixth year, the Good Sports-AFYF partnership delivers fitness and sports equipment donations that remove barriers for youth to participate in regular physical activity. Good Sports utilizes its relationships with equipment manufacturers and distributors to provide sports equipment to programs serving children in need. For every grant dollar from AFYF, Good Sports provides at least $2 in equipment donations.

Since 2010, Good Sports and AFYF have provided equipment donations worth more than $963,000 to youth programs in 72 of Georgia’s 159 counties. The donations have helped more than 88,600 youth gain access to regular fitness activities.

“Good Sports’ primary goal every day is to ensure that the resources are available for children in need to become more active,” says Melissa Harper, Good Sports’ Chief Executive Officer. “The fact that this partnership is close to distributing $1 million altogether is a testament to the commitment that the Atlanta Falcons Youth Foundation places on expanding kids’ access to quality athletic opportunities.”

The application period for the next cycle of Good Sports-AFYF equipment donations is open through Friday, December 2, 2016. Programs can submit an application by visiting Good Sports’ website – www.goodsports.org – and completing the online application. Approved applicants will be able to receive up to six (6) donations through Good Sports' regular process over the next two years, and will also be considered for future grants through the Good Sports partnership with the AFYF. Any questions regarding the application can be directed to the Good Sports Program Team at community@goodsports.org.
