Junior Golfer Solomon Dobbs to kick off the PGA Tour Championship

PGA Tour Championship - September 22-25 East Lake Golf Club

Solomon Dobbs, 14, dreams of playing the PGA Tour one day. On September 22nd, Solomon will have his first taste of life on the PGA Tour when he tees it up and strikes a tee shot to kick off the 2016 season ending PGA Tour Championship at the famed East Lake Golf Club.

Solomon Dobbs, is a sophomore, at Charles R. Drew Senior Academy. Solomon, is a honor student, taking advanced level courses in world history, and math, two of his favorite subjects. Solomon, was first introduced to the game of golf through the First Tee of East Lake program, 8 years ago. Just four years ago Solomon set a goal to become the top player in the First Tee of East Lake. On August 27th, 2016, he realized that goal by winning the First Tee Cup golf tournament, which crowns the best golfer in the program, and also bestows the honor of hitting the ceremonial First Tee Shot at the 2016 Tour Championship & Fed Ex Cup PGA golf tournament.

This past spring Solomon was introduced to the Esther Cannizzo Junior Golf Foundation and its grant program. The Esther Cannizzo Junior Golf Foundation helps kids who have the passion for the game of golf, the skill, but not the financial means to continue in the game. The President of the Foundation, Jackie Cannizzo, was so impressed with Solomon's motivation and skill that he was easily accepted into the program. Solomon said to me,  "I believe that your mothers kindness and willingness to aid the youth will inspire everyone you come into contact with, especially me" said Jackie. "It was in that moment I knew that Solomon was special and that we will support his dreams and goals".

Solomon's ambitions are to play college golf at a school with a great golf program, major in engineering and economics, and go on to play golf professionally on the PGA Tour.
Solomon is a member of the National Beta Club, and National Society of High School Scholars, additionally he does volunteer activities for several nonprofit organizations. Solomon lives in Atlanta, Ga, with his loving, and supportive family, and his German Shepherd, Zeus.

The Tour Championship is a major golf event that is part of the PGA Tour. It has historically been one of the final events of the PGA Tour season; prior to 2007, its field consisted exclusively of the top 30 money leaders of the past PGA Tour season.

Since 2007, it has been the final event of the four-tournament Fedex Cup playoff, and eligibility is determined by FedEx Cup points amassed throughout the season instead. While originally followed by the PGA Tour Fall season, (for those competing for qualifying exemptions in the following season), a re-alignment of the PGA Tour's season structure beginning in 2013 makes the Tour Championship the final event of the year.  East Lake has been the event's permanent home.

Jordan Speith is the defending champion. Watch out Jordan, Solomon is on your heels. For more information and to donate to the Esther Cannizzo Junior Golf Foundation and help more kids achieve their dreams go to www.esthercannizzogolffoundation.org
