Reality TV Stars Dr. Ron & Tramell Smith Join Efforts to Help Protect Children This Summer

According to the FBI, Atlanta is one of the largest sex trafficking hubs in the country. Young boys and girls are bought and sold there in the name of big profit, with some pimps reportedly raking in $33,000 a week. Couple that with a disparity in reporting young children and young adults of color that go missing with a trace every year, and you have the perfect recipe for lucrative modern day slavery on American soil.

Reality TV Star, Genise Shelton (Married to Medicine) became impassioned when this epidemic was brought to her attention with the hashtag #SaveOurGirls in March and celebrities such as Sean “Diddy” Combs, Tina Knowles Lawson, Gabrielle Union, Taraji Henson, Viola Davis, Andy Cohen and LL Cool J helped to make it a trending topic.

Now Atlanta’s celebrity community, Dr. Ron from “The Doctors” and Tramell Smith from A&E’s “Fit to Fat to Fit” is responding and pledging to help raise funds and awareness, lead information sessions and lend social media influence to make parents, teachers and the community-at-large aware of this growing epidemic.

In an article written by an Atlanta-based journalist, Goldie Taylor, she wrote that Atlanta’s Jackson-Hartsfield International Airport flight routes make it a hot spot for the sexual exploitation of children. “Clients” fly in and sometimes never leave the airport. They pay a waiting pimp, sexually assault a child in a public bathroom stall or another secluded area, and then board an outbound flight. Airport officials and at least one airline, Delta, have begun training employees to spot potential victims.

The family event will consist of a 5K walk led by Smith, a self-defense demo led by Divas in Defense, and host a panel of experts including local law enforcement and families of missing persons.

Current sponsors include: Shelton Hospitalist Group, Primary Care Research Group, Podiatry Care of Georgia, Divas in Defense, Divas Unlimited (The Legendary Awards, InfluencerHer Awards), The Pink Boss and The Destiny Collection Boutique and Total Nutrition & Training.
