Release Date: 07.17.2017 | Location: All Metro Atlanta | Organization: WSB-TV-Atlanta-Georgia's-Hidden-Treasures

A Family 2 Family Special

“Georgia’s Hidden Treasures” shows viewers where they can catch a ride on a vintage train, discover a waterfall hidden in the city, and witness the rebirth of a piece of the state’s history.

Channel 2 Action News Anchor Justin Farmer reveals a short line railroad in Southwest Georgia. Along the way riders can stop at the Windsor, a majestic hotel that once served presidents and mobsters alike. The locomotive also stops at a telephone museum, a theatre said to be home to a ghost and even the hometown of Jimmy Carter.

Channel 2’s Wendy Corona shows viewers where they can see historic monuments, over 100 acres of trails, and even a waterfall without leaving the city. The Cascade Springs Nature Preserve is tucked away in Southwest Atlanta and covered by a canopy of trees. The babbling brooks running through the oasis and the shaded trails make the preserve a perfect place to cool off in the summer.

The Cyclorama closes out the program. Channel 2’s Craig Lucie will be the first to show off the brand-new home for the massive piece of Georgia’s history. Lucie shares a few secrets of the restoration including how historians figured out what section of the painting was removed when it was relocated decades ago.

WSB-TV VP & General Manager Tim McVay said, “Channel 2 WSBTV is dedicated to telling the story of the heritage and culture of our great city and state. It makes me so proud of this franchise that reveals the many hidden gems available to us all so that Georgia families can discover and enjoy them for years to come.”
