Atlanta Habitat ReStore DIY Workshop shares creative, cash-saving home decor projects

2 p.m., August 19

Atlanta Habitat for Humanity’s DIY diva and lifestyle blogger, Karen Cooper, returns to the Atlanta Habitat ReStore for a Do-It-Yourself workshop on August 19.

The DIY scene is booming as the "make do and mend" mentality that surfaced because of the economic downturn has morphed into an enduring craft-mania. Television shows, podcasts, YouTube videos and blogs like Cooper’s the DIY bungalow bring the joy of saving money by creating cool crafts to an ever-widening audience.

The upcoming Atlanta Habitat ReStore’s DIY workshop will use items from the ReStore and teach participants how to repurpose shutters and how one curtain panel can be made into two Roman shades.  "DIY workshops are for everyone, regardless of experience level,” Cooper says. "It’s an opportunity to create something beautiful and useful and have fun."

The Atlanta Habitat Restore DIY workshops are free. Participants will cover the cost of materials for their projects.  Workshop participants can sign up at http://www.atlantahabitat.org/diyclass.

Atlanta Habitat ReStore sells new and gently used furniture, home accessories, building materials, and appliances at a fraction of the retail price. In 2016, net proceeds from the ReStore generated enough funds to fully sponsor nine Atlanta Habitat homes and contribute to Atlanta Habitat’s expanded mission to empower families through homeownership and to revitalize neighborhoods.
