JOYN WINS PRSA GEORGIA PHOENIX AWARD FOR CREATIVE TACTICS

Behavioral Wealth Management Firm Recognized for Remarkable Philanthropic Experience

Atlanta, GA – Tuesday, November 7, 2017 — PRSA Georgia has announced winners of its 2017 Phoenix Awards. With hundreds of entries, competition is stiff. This year in the Creative Tactics category, JOYN took home the highest honors for its top-secret brand and category launch event, “We Changed Lives.” Instead of a self-congratulatory, hotel-ballroom dinner, the behavioral wealth management firm previously known as GV Financial Advisors created a life-changing experience that aligned seamlessly with their new category, name and mission: helping clients grow and use their wealth to create and live extraordinary, joyful lives.

While JOYN offered a quick introduction to Behavioral Wealth Management and revealed its new name, the true centerpiece of the evening was a powerful interactive experience that has helped tens of thousands of people across the globe. The “secret” was a surprise challenge: working in teams, guests had one hour to collectively build 100 prosthetic hands for amputees in developing countries.

“What started as a happy hour among strangers turned into a high-energy philanthropic group project where guests used their wealth of time, talent, and relationships to change hundreds of lives,” said CEO David Geller. “We also threw in a few stressful challenges that forced everyone to stop, catch their emotions and biases, and recognize how those reactions could change their decisions. Those moments added excitement while reinforcing how bias and emotion affect the choices we make. And that’s important because we build our lives one choice at a time.”

In the emotional debrief, several guests shared what they learned and how it was affecting them. Geller then compared the concept of donating money versus spending time with loved ones on meaningful philanthropic work. Writing a check is great, but deeper involvement can create a greater sense of purpose, which has been scientifically linked to longevity and is a component of an extraordinary, joyful life.

“Our guests still talk about their experience that night,” said VP Marketing Nancy Sagar. “Some guests say we changed their own lives or have done the project within their families to teach their children the same lessons. We’ve also been thrilled to discover that our event is being taught as a case study at the college level in California.”

More than 350 people participated in JOYN’s top-secret event. Post-event engagement included 500 client engagements with the event wrap-up communications. Social buzz was also heavy with more than 2,000 photo views on Facebook and Flickr.

The Phoenix Awards is a competition designed by PRSA Georgia to recognize projects and programs that demonstrate excellence in the public relations profession across the state Georgia.
