Release Date: 11.09.2017 | Location: All Metro Atlanta | Organization: Daffodil Downtown Atlanta Dash 5K

First Ever Downtown Daffodil Dash 5K

Unique opportunity to participate in a scenic run and in the Downtown Daffodil Project

On Saturday, November 11, runners and walkers will have an exclusive opportunity to race in Downtown Atlanta’s first-ever Downtown Daffodil Dash. Produced by Central Atlanta Progress and the Atlanta Downtown Improvement District (CAP/ADID), the event will provide participants with a tour some of Downtown’s oldest neighborhoods, newest developments, and most iconic landmarks. The Downtown Daffodil Dash is made possible by Delta Air Lines, Hughes Turner Phillips, WSB-TV, and Outfront Media.

Tyisha Fernandes will serve as the featured Dash emcee. A TV reporter for Channel 2 WSB-TV since 2014, Tyisha is an award-winning broadcast journalist and fitness enthusiast. When not reporting on local news, she can be found exercising, running, or teaching a Zumba class, making her the perfect fit for this event.

Participants will have the option to sign up for the timed 5K or for a fun run; both will follow the same route through the core of the city, beginning and ending in Woodruff Park.

Following the race, participants will have a chance to contribute to the Downtown Daffodil Project by planting a daffodil bulb in the park.

A socially-conscious beautification effort led by Central Atlanta Progress and Am Yisrael Chai!, the Downtown Daffodil Project serves as a living memorial that honors the lives of children both past and present who suffer humanitarian crises, all the while adding vibrancy to center city. The project began in 2014 with a ceremonial planting of 25,000 daffodil bulbs in Woodruff Park and has since expanded to 240,000 daffodil bulbs planted across Downtown Atlanta, creating a “ribbon of consciousness” that blooms each spring.

“The Downtown Daffodil Project adds meaningful vibrancy to Downtown Atlanta each year,” said A.J. Robinson, President of CAP/ADID, “and we look forward to offering the community a new signature event that is sure to invigorate the streets of our community.”

About the Downtown Daffodil Project: CAP/ADID, in conjunction with Am Yisrael Chai!, launched the Downtown Daffodil Project in 2013 in support of the worldwide Daffodil Project, which aims to build a Living Holocaust Memorial by planting 1.5 million daffodils around the world to honor the one and a half million children who died in Nazi occupied Europe and those that continue to experience human rights violations today. Downtown Atlanta’s Daffodil Project, to date, has planted over 240,000 daffodil bulbs at various Downtown sites, including city parks, major hotels, and land managed by the Georgia Department of Transportation along the Downtown Connector.

About AmYisrael Chai!: Am Yisrael Chai! is a non-profit Holocaust Education and Genocide Awareness Organization. Each year we host a community event in Atlanta, Georgia to commemorate the Holocaust and to celebrate survival and success. Am Yisrael Chai! has developed The Daffodil Project, a world-wide project empowering Holocaust Education. The shape and color of the daffodils represent the yellow stars Jews were forced to wear during the Holocaust. The daffodils represent our hope for the future as they return with resilience and beauty each year, reminding us to remember the past and take action for the future.
