Channel 2 WSB-TV, Atlanta's #1 TV Station

Channel 2 WSB-TV dominated the viewing in the Atlanta market throughout the day, continuing its long run as the #1 local news provider. Channel 2 Action News won every head-to-head newscast, drawing more audience than the combined news competition at 5, 5:30 and 6 a.m., noon, 5 and 6 p.m. All together the station’s newscasts attracted 56% of the local news audience over the rating period, more than doubling #2 WAGA with 27%. WXIA attracted 10%, WGCL 6% and WPCH 1%.


Channel 2 WSB-TV ranked #1 in 22 hours of the average day, Monday – Friday, during the December 2017 Sweep.

Fifty-five percent of Atlanta local morning news viewers woke up to “Channel 2 Action News This Morning” from 4:30-7 a.m. in December. The early morning newscasts together drew 20% more viewers than the competition combined.  

“Channel 2 Action News This Morning” at 6 a.m. out-delivered the combined audiences of WAGA, WXIA, and WGCL by 17%. It drew 69% more viewers than #2 WAGA.

Once again, ABC’s “Good Morning America” continued to reign as Atlanta’s #1 morning news and entertainment program. The two-hour program out-delivered NBC’s “Today Show” with four times the viewers and beat WAGA’s “Good Day Atlanta” by 63%.

“Channel 2 Action News at Noon” drew 67% more than the competition combined while it out-delivered #2 WAGA by 200%.

In the Early Evening News, Channel 2 Action News continued to dominate the other local news stations.

  • At 4 p.m., Channel 2 Action News delivered five times the audience of WGCL, the lone local news competitor at 4 p.m.
  • At 5 p.m., Channel 2 Action News out-delivered #2 WAGA by 82%.
  • At 6 p.m., Channel 2 Action News delivered more viewers than the combined competition and out-delivered #2 WAGA by 100%.

ABC’s “World News Tonight with David Muir” at 7 p.m. continued to tower above the other national news broadcasts in the early evening news programs. It was the #1 rated weekday program, news or non-news, on any Atlanta station in any time period. The daily half-hour more than doubled the combined audiences of NBC and CBS national news. 

“Entertainment Tonight” at 7:30 p.m. delivered 67% more viewers than “TMZ” and 79% more audience than “Jeopardy.”

ABC was Atlanta’s #1 prime time network, Monday through Friday, ranking 22% higher than both NBC and FOX and drawing 120% more audience than CBS.

“The Channel 2 Action News Nightbeat at 11 p.m.” out-ranked #2 WAGA with 67% more audience, Monday-Friday.

The following weekday programs also ranked #1 on WSB-TV: “ABC World News Now,” “America This Morning,” “Live with Kelly & Ryan,” “The View,” “The Chew,” “General Hospital,” “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” “ABC Nightline,” “Daily Mail” and “The Doctors.”

“Channel 2 Action News Saturday Morning,” 6-9 a.m. out-distanced #2 WAGA with more than twice the viewers. The three-hour block was watched by 40% more viewers than the competition combined.

“Channel 2 Action News Sunday Morning,” 6-8 a.m. and 9-11 a.m. drew 125% more audience than #2 WAGA and more than the combined competition.


Channel 2’s digital platforms continued steady growth year to year across all channels.
