Points of Light Conference Returns to Atlanta, June 18-20

Early-bird registration is now open for Service Unites

Points of Light will bring its annual conference, Service Unites, back to Atlanta this year, from June 18-20. Points of Light, headquartered in Atlanta, has chosen this year’s conference theme to be “Igniting Civic Culture.” Formerly known as the Conference on Volunteering and Service, this global event brings together more than 2,500 nonprofit, government, business and civic leaders to gain and share knowledge, resources and connections needed to galvanize the power of people to create change globally.

“The world is continuously changing. With a global leadership crisis, constant innovations in technology and the growth of social networks, organizations and individuals must continue to evolve to make an impact,” says Natalye Paquin, president and CEO of Points of Light. “Service Unites connects the people who are working to solve society’s greatest challenges and equips them to more effectively influence their communities and support the causes they care about.”

For more than 10 years, Service Unites has convened the greatest leaders of the social sector. It creates a stimulating environment for collaboration, which helps shape and mold the sector to grow and innovate in a rapidly changing world. This year’s event will challenge attendees to be a spark that ignites civic culture — a culture in which every person is inspired, equipped and mobilized to be a citizen in the fullest sense, to take action that changes the world.

The conference will take place at the Omni Hotel in downtown Atlanta with special events scheduled at venues including the historic Fox Theatre, the Center for Civil and Human Rights and the World of Coca-Cola. Learning paths and more than 100 workshops will be built around the following topics:

  • Building Resilient Communities
  • Business
  • Disaster Preparedness and Response
  • Faith
  • Global
  • Higher Education
  • Military and Veterans
  • National Service
  • Nonprofit Capacity Building
  • Nonprofit Volunteer Engagement/Service Enterprise
  • Tech in Volunteerism
  • Youth Engagement

Distinguished speakers from past events have included Points of Light Chairman Neil Bush; actress Yara Shahidi; former first lady Michelle Obama; U.S. Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi; comedian John Oliver; author Cheryl Strayed; musician Harry Connick Jr.; U.S. Congressman John Lewis; and former President Jimmy Carter. Speakers and guests for the 2018 Service Unites conference are being confirmed every day.

Early-bird registration for Service Unites is now open. Registering before April 13 can mean a savings of up to $200 per pass.

More information on the Service Unites schedule, speakers and learning paths can be found on the website.
