"4 Questions Journalist Spotlight" w/Ashley Thompson of CBS46

Leff's Atlanta Media's Weekly Feature Conversation with an Atlanta Journalist

Each week, in partnership with Leff’s Atlanta Media (www.leffsatlantamedia.com), Atlanta Daybook presents our "Journalist Spotlight." Atlanta public relations professional Mitch Leff of Leff & Associates offers a conversation with a journalist in the Atlanta market, asking them four questions that'll help you learn more about local Atlanta media. What makes them tick? What's new at their media outlet? What drives them?

Mitch also operates Leff’s Atlanta Media (http://www.leffsatlantamedia.com) an online database with contact info for thousands of Atlanta-based journalists, and Mitch’s Media Match (www.mitchsmediamatch.com), a service that connects Atlanta journalists with local experts.

The Spotlight Shines on CBS46’s Ashley Thompson!

Ashley is a multi-media journalists (MMJ) for CBS46. She’s responsible for fully crafting a story, shoots all interviews and footage and edits the final product. She started her television career at ESPN in Bristol, Connecticut where she was a production assistant for SportsCenter and several other sports shows.

She got her on-air start in Montgomery, Alabama, where she worked as a general assignment reporter for three years. After that, she worked in Phoenix before landing home in Atlanta.

What kind of story makes you proud to be a journalist?

I’m most proud to tell stories where I can advocate on behalf of viewers. I believe it is my duty to speak for those who don’t have my platform. When I’m able to get results from a story I’ve told, it makes me proud to be a journalist.

What’s new and different about what you’re doing at CBS46?

I don’t know if it’s new or different, but journalists are using social media like never before. We use it to find stories, make contacts, promote content. It’s a major requirement of the job.

What is the best and worst thing about your job?

The best thing about my job is that no day is ever the same. I’m always going somewhere new and speaking with someone I’ve never met before.

What’s the coolest thing people should know about you?

I enjoy my dogs and fashion. I’m very much a homebody!
