Career Opportunity - Sister Love

SisterLove, Inc., is the oldest women-centered HIV and sexual/ reproductive health organization in the Southeastern United States. It was founded in 1989 to address HIV-related education, prevention and research, and to support the rights of reproductive justice for women and girls. SisterLove’s mission is to eradicate the impact of HIV as well as sexual and reproductive oppressions upon all women and their communities in the US and globally.

SLI utilizes an interdisciplinary human rights, harm reduction, and Reproductive Justice (RJ) approach to its direct services (testing, counseling, sexuality education) and its Policy and Advocacy Program (PAP) to support women living with HIV. SisterLove, Inc. is headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia with a satellite office in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Position: Communications Intern
Description: SLI seeks a dynamic, self-starter to assist marketing and communications efforts. This internship is an excellent opportunity to experience a myriad of Communication tasks while working for an Atlanta community-based mission focused
nonprofit organization.


  • Update and maintain SLI social media presence, including scheduling Facebook, Twitter, Instagram updates
  • Assist in planning, writing and managing a monthly e-Newsletter
  • Draft, distribute and pitch press releases, media alerts and other stories
  • Designing flyers, graphics, e-vites and other marketing material for events hosted by SLI
  • Update the SLI website when needed
  • Attend monthly staff meetings and department meetings if schedule will allow.
  • Reach out to community organizations, area businesses, general public and donors with the message about SLI mission to end the impact of HIV and promote Reproductive and Social Justice
  • Collaborate with staff on new ideas, directions for communications, public relations
  • Assist with Event Planning as needed


  • Firm grasp of available tools and platforms in the social media space
  • Completed or working toward a college degree, preferably in (but not limited to) a related field (e.g., Journalism, English, Marketing/Communications, or Public Relations)
  • Previous internship or related experience in marketing or communications is a plus
  • Must be computer literate (working knowledge of word processing, PowerPoint and Mail Chimp). Proficiency in Adobe InDesign or Photoshop highly desired but not required. Knowledge of HTML a plus.
  • An effective communicator, both written and oral
  • Ability to communicate in a professional manner with press and community contacts
  • Self-motivated, comprehensive learner, good organizational skills, detail-oriented, ability to prioritize, multi-task and meet deadlines
  • Enthusiasm and heart to learn the mission of SLI.

Start Date: Immediate. Position open until filled, requires 3 to 4-month commitment.

Hours: 10-12 hours/week, or more if desired--preferably twice a week in the office. Up to 4 hours can be completed at home.

Compensation: This is an Unpaid/Volunteer Internship
