Channel 2 WSB-TV, Atlanta's #1 TV Station

Channel 2 WSB-TV, a Cox Media Group station, continued to dominate the Atlanta television market. The country’s top-rated ABC affiliate ranked #1 overall with more news audience than the competition combined in the key demographic of Adults 25-54.

Channel 2 Action News won head-to-head newscast, Monday through Friday, 4:30-7 a.m., 12-1, 4, 6 and 11 p.m. Atlanta’s No. 1 station drew more audience than the news competition combined at 5 and 5:30 a.m., noon, 4 and 6 p.m.

All together the station’s newscasts attracted 53% of the local news audience over the rating period. Channel 2 Action News nearly doubled #2 WAGA, which attracted 30% of the local news audience. WXIA remained in third place in the market with 10% of the local news audience. WGCL ranked last with 6% of the news viewers.

November 2018 BY THE NUMBERS

Fifty percent of Atlanta’s local morning news viewers woke up to “Channel 2 Action News This Morning” from 4:30-7 a.m. in November. The early morning newscasts delivered 78% more viewers than #2 WAGA and 20% more viewers than the competition combined.  

“Channel 2 Action News This Morning” at 6 a.m. out-delivered the combined audiences of WAGA, WXIA, and WGCL and 57% more viewers than #2 WAGA.

ABC’s “Good Morning America” out-delivered NBC’s “Today Show” with three times the audience and beat WAGA’s “Good Day Atlanta” by 38%.

“Channel 2 Action News at Noon” drew more than the competition combined and 63% more viewers than #2 WAGA.

In the Early Evening News, Channel 2 Action News continued to dominate the other local news stations.

  • At 4 p.m., Channel 2 Action News attracted five times the audience of WGCL, the lone local news competitor at 4 p.m.   
  • At 5 p.m., Channel 2 Action News won the time-period.
  • At 6 p.m., Channel 2 Action News dominated the viewing in the market, with more viewers than the combined competition and 69% more viewers than #2 WAGA.

ABC’s “World News Tonight with David Muir” at 7 p.m. delivered over three times more viewers than the combined audience of NBC and CBS’s national news programs.

“Entertainment Tonight” at 7:30 p.m. delivered 35% more viewers than “TMZ” on WAGA and 80% more audience than “Jeopardy” on WXIA and four times more viewers than “The Big Bang Theory” on WGCL.

“The Channel 2 Action News Nightbeat at 11 p.m.” ranked as the highest-rated late local newscast in Atlanta with 53% more audience than #2 WAGA’s 11 p.m. newscast.

“Channel 2 Action News Saturday Morning,” 6-9 a.m. delivered 75% more viewers than #2 WAGA and more than the combined competition.

“Channel 2 Action News Sunday Morning,” 6-8 a.m. and 9-11 a.m., drew 160% more audience than #2 WAGA and more audience than the combined competition.

The following weekday programs also ranked #1 on WSB-TV: “ABC World News Now,” “America This Morning,” “The View,” “General Hospital” and “Face the Truth.”

NOVEMBER SOCIAL MEDIA REPORT

Channel 2’s social media platforms continued steady growth year-to-year across all channels.

  • On Facebook, the station’s page, now with 1,530,000 Fans, grew by 6% in “Likes” over last year.
  • On Twitter, Channel 2’s Twitter station page, now with 1,166,600 Followers, continues to growth with an 6% increase over this time last November.
